Jap Import Corolla Exhaust

    Hi.

I'm doing some work on my 94 Jap Corolla 1.5 petrol estate this weekend, including replacing the exhaust silencer. Local parts shop reckon they can get the part for me once they know what it's the same as, in an Irish car.

Can anyone direct me to somewhere I can find that out?

Other than that, it's me jacking the car up, taking measurements, making mental notes, then looking at the parts shop's catalog to see if I can spot a silencer the same.

Why not get just an exhaust place to do the work? I don't have the money. I'm guessing that buying the silencer & fitting it myself will be cheaper than getting the job done for me.

    Thanks,

    Mark

Unless you are getting substantial discount off the RIP it won't be cheaper, exhaust centres make their money on the part not off the fitting.

I called a local tyre/brakes/exhaust place and they said they'd have a look to see what silencer will fit and give me a quote with no charge, but said that there may be some custom-welding to be done.

Sounds fair, though I have had a silencer replaced on it before, and AFAIR that involved a straight fit, with no welding - there certainly doesn't appear to be any welding in place now. I'll pop up on Saturday morning.

    Thanks RJ.

once either a good parts place or exhaust place knows the shape of the silencer and bore/diameter of the pipe it wouldnt be very hard to get another one similar and make it fit.

Plenty of small handy local places that still don't mind a bit of messin around. Had a different rear section (well, half system really) made up for a car last year as i wanted the the rear silencer removed and replaced with straight pipe, cost 50 euro including the piping, making new rear mounts and welding and only took half an hour including driving it in and putting it on the lift, not bad for a quick turnaround

    **edit**

p.s. if you want to fit it yourself then you're going to have to jack up the car first anyway, so why not jack it up and either take rough dimensions and get a picture, or remove it and bring it with you?
