Was reading various articles today in a few newspapers and many were praising the harsh torture treatments given to inmates in Guantanamo bay which led to information given to help capture and terminate Osoma bin laden. I and a few work mates were discussing this and most of us favored what happened in Guantanamo bay

In my opinion i think it was worth it as they ended up finding their man and hopefully cutting the head of the snake.

    whats your opinion ?

Easy to sit back and say it's worth it.. But it's blatently not. Holding human beings without trial and treating them like dogs so they can find one man is a gross injustice.

As for the head of the snake? Not a hope.

Was it worth it from who's point of view?

Almost certainly not from the pov of any innocent people who ended up in Guantanamo Bay.

My feeling is that if you can't differentiate between there/their that you're opinion is worthless.

yea but the amount of innocent human beings that these terrorists brought despair and death to is shocking and if they behave like animals treat them like animals

I sincerely hope this was deliberate, otherwise... ;)

OP no, I don't think the detention of these prisoners and their ill-treatment was justified.

    ABG put it well -

What about innocent people? They were at least a few people released from Guantanamo with any charges

That's all fine except that we're talking about Guantanamo Bay where people are held without trial. So calling them terrorists and saying they behave like animals doesn't hold any value.

I watched a interesting interview a few years back with a retired USMC officer who fought in both Afghanistan and Iraq, his opinion is as follows:

"If you took these guys out of gitmo put them on a plane back to Afghanistan and then as they were disembarking gave each man a AK-47 and $500, they would still do less damage than leaving them in gitmo".

That about sums it up for me.

In relation to the torture, yesterday I listened to an interesting debate on the last word about Bin Ladens death. During the interview they played a clip from a US senator on FOX news (). In this interview he described how one detainee was water boarded several times to extract intelligence which played a part in the death of Bin Laden. What he failed to mention , and was subsequently pointed out was that this intelligence was gained by using normal interrogation methods. It was not the previous 138 water boarding instances that gave the intelligence.

They are probably the same sort of people who supported the RUC shoot-to-kill policy:rolleyes:
