    Hi
Could anyone point me in the direction of a mechanic with knowledge in VW in dublin.pref North dublin.
To expand, have a '99 Mk IV 1.4L. I'm having trouble getting it past the high idle emissions.

It passed last year second time around (a bit of persuasion from Dipetane and TB cleaner down the manifold and the throttle body). Brought it to the same garage that solved the problem last time (alfa guy). He did the same things on it that worked last time and couldn't get the high idle emissions down. His next step would be to open it up and check the rings. It doesn't burn oil, it isn't smokey so i'm hoping this is unnecessary. CAT is only 18 months old at most.

I'm looking for a second opinion.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Any decent mechanic would be able to find the issue.

The first things to check IMO would be the function of the lamda sensors and the function of the egr valve.

After that, a leakdown test would show if your car is suffering the valve problems that the 1.4's are prone to.

can you post the readings provided on your nct report?
ND why would you suspect EGR fault? Has the car any running issues?

If the egr valve was sticking open at higher revs when it should be closed the the air/fuel mix will be off, leading to emmission issues.

The actual test readings will give an idea of which direction to start looking.
