    Hi,
I bought some sunglasses on ebay recently.
They were stopped in Athlone by Customs...

I got a letter saying as much, but nothing else...
    Anyone know the story now?
    Thanks!

perfectly normal - contact customs and they'll let you know how much you have to pay before they release it.

assuming it was something purchased outside of the EU you can expect import duty and VAT ...depending on the item approx 21% of the total cost (shipping and cost of item)...and a processing fee of €10-15 maybe added on for An post.

Were they counterfeit? They would keep them if so.

Contact them; but you will get another letter soon even if you don't. They're either counterfeit & will be confiscated, or you owe duty on them. They'll likely advise soon.

    They're Raybans for 20euro...
How can they confiscate them though? What matter if a person wants to buy 1 pair of counterfeit anything?

Have i any chance of getting them back?

Raybans for €20? Those are counterfeit, and counterfeits are illegal to buy and sell, so that's why it matters if you want to buy them. You have no hope of getting these, they will be binned.

    As above - they're counterfeit.

And what do you mean "why does it matter"? It's illegal - they're counterfeit! Where's the confusion?

Anyway - they'll be binned and you'll get a letter.
