    Hi,

I have an open university honours science degree and seeing that I am now facing redundancy can anyone tell me what I need to do to qualify as a secondary school teacher?

    Thanks.

    Hi

You will need to apply for the H dip or postgraduate diploma in education. All information is on pac.ie - if you go onto the website, you can look up your degree to see what subjects you'd be qualified to teach - if you still want to go ahead, you do a central application through the PAC (post grad application centre) or if you want to go to trinity you apply directly there. you'll have missed the cut off to start the course this year and it's tough to get a place. also, think carefully about changing careers - there is a massive shortage of teaching jobs out there - even casual part time ones.

You also need to check with the Teaching Council to see if your degree is recognised for teaching purposes.
