Buying a bike this week

I'm going buying a new bike this week, something I've been thinking of for a while now. I called into my local bike shop at the weekend and have my eye on a nice road bike. I'm not going into the cycling big time but I think a road bike is the right choice. I haven't cycled since I was in college a few years back. I'd be planning on getting out a few evenings a week. Any suggestions on what equipment I should be on the lookout for, what not to go for etc?

The bike was about €400, I'd have a bit to spend on extra equipment too

If you want to spend 400e the best option for you would be to look for the on www.adverts.ie , you will get better deal than in LBS.

Thanks for that. I had a look there, and on donedeal etc. I'd be happier going to the LBS, have a choice of new bikes and I can go back if there's any problems.
