What's the verdict on TDM or RTAS Reverb Plugins ?

These days I'd mostly use reverb as a 'special FX' so I've not sat down and done A/B comparison on 'primary' parts like vocals and snares, but intend to do so.

I have access to Altiverb, Reverb One, Lexicon PCM and the TC Reverbs, TL Space.

Anything else I should be looking at ?

I hear the Sonnox one is good.

Valhalla Shimmer & Valhalla Room. First one is great for huge modulated, pitch shifted Eventide Eno-esque washes. Not realistic in the slightest. His blog on reverbs is also very informative.

Clearest software one - has some nice spatial positioning options in there - and a very pure sound - yet to really use it lots as only used the demo while I wait for money tree to grow ;)

UAD card based ones sound finer than most at top end from ones i've tried - seems like hardware based still rocks - I'd use the UAD ones for main verbs and SSL for everything else (like percussion eventually) - worth checking the demo out for sure.

Cool - being 'clear' it might work well in track that's dense ?

The whole UAD thing is another to try. Ta.

When I say clear (and this is usually how I test reverbs) - I stick some single hats or other short percussive sound through to hear the quality of the high frequency processing - a lot of software ones can be 'grainy' 'bitty'

Not quite sure about the difference of use of reverbs between styles of music - in dense/busy tracks it's probably going to be a fight for space like everything else and dependent on what sound you want the reverb on and space in it's frequency range.

I suppose most the material you deal with already has natural ambiance on it? - Us dance dudes have pretty much dry sounds from the off.

Valhallaroom is a very nice reverb plug-in.

I had been considering the lexicon pcm native bundle. At the $50 dollar price tag though, Valhallaroom saved me $1400 on the lexi bundle and satisfied my gearlust for another while.

The two EMT emulations on UAD are fantastic and worth a try, they have a Lexicon 224 plug due out soon too.
