Just hoping someone could help me. I'm going to a colorectal surgeon in Bons Secours on Wednesday. I have VHI so that will pay for the procedure that he's going to do. But how much do specialists generally pay for the first consultation? Just trying to budget. Thanks.

I'm not a doctor but as a well seasoned patient I have found pricing varies quite a bit. I have paid between €80 and €250.

The best thing to do is to ring up Bon Secour tomorrow and ask to speak to your doctor's secretary. A lot of doctors will not insist on payment there and then after the appointment but will send you the bill for the consultation.

    Good luck with the appointment.

€150-200 would be the average but I have have seen ranges from 80-250 as Whimsical says.
The Surgeons in the Bons tends to be around €180 AFAIK.
If all the prices were the same it would suggest price fixing so variation is supposedly a good sign !

The most expensive I know of is a Dublin based neurologist at €280.
Still getting my head around that.

Follow up appointments tend to be around the €100 mark.

Best of luck with your appointment. I'm a big fan of The Bons. You probably know it's an accredited hospital. It has a newish HDU (High Dependency Unit) for patients with who may need a little more care post-operatively/bigger procedures.

Of note, some of The Bons surgeons may do their procedures at Beaumont (or their affiliated hospital) depending on the procedure, the patient, Operating Room availability etc.

    All the best.
