    OK so above is a league table of races in which boardsies have voted on. Remember those race polls from last year :D (promise to stay on top of them now) well I've just spent the last few hours going back over them as there going to be a regular item from now on.

    Take a look here to see how we're hoping to improve the ART events forum

    Every race from now on will have a poll and it will remain open for 14 days after the race. The results will then replace the previous race scores or it'll be making it's debut.
    I've only counted races that have at least 10 votes as I felt it would be more accurate.

    Now with all the hard work done :D it'll be alot easier to update and keep track.

    great idea to show the poll of polls

    its funny how one of the top rated is "Hell of the West" !!!! :-)

    Would it be worth while totting up votes from previous years to get the numbers on what we all think about races over the last couple of years?

    We only started doing the polls last year so wouldn't have that info but giving that over a 100 voted on Dublin last year I think the score of 4.72 is impressive.

    Just updated the table with the Great Limerick run (3.92) and the Boyne 10k (4.85) in Drogheda.
    There are also results for Dundalk half and 10k (4.33) and the mens mini marathon (4.6) but both had less than 10 votes, so they don't make the table.

    That'll be next week, I've set it up to give races about 10-14 days but it's looking like it'll score very well.

    I suppose it depends on which 10 is voting. You could have 10 new people some on and vote and give it 5/5 and everyone is associated with the race. Ive seen people voting on here that you know didnt run the race but what can you do:D

    Just adding Lecheille 5k to the table, very impressive score, must have been a good one.
    I've also removed races that had less than 20 votes.

    Conemarra adventure challenge scored 4.52 from 17 votes (not enough to make the table) and the Clonmel 10k scored a 5.0 but only had 6 votes.

    I don't think it matters much. While the rating system looks groovy, I tend to pay more attention to the comments posted for any race I am thinking of doing.

    I think the entry bit is a bit subjective and skewed to be honest. Lets say a race only gets 15 votes but every single poster on the race thread voted. Then imagine one that got 20 votes but less than half the posters on the race thread voted. DCM will always make it but what if only 142 of 500 posters voted while 19/20 posters voted for a Tri thread.

    The polls aren't scientific, they're not accurate, they're just a bit of fun. As ZL says, anything objective about the race will be in the comments. However, any time you have a list of things based on rank, (and a table of polls is just that), you'll have people making decisions based on the top or bottom of that rank. And then you'll have (as we've had a lot of) people voting "up" races they didn't run in, but know the organizers, or people voting down races they didn't run in, but are rival race directors. One recent example of this has caused trouble higher up the chain from this forum.

    So while its unfair to smaller races, or races with smaller pools of forum participants, having a higher cut-off for inclusion in a "best-of..." table, helps limit the amount of jackassery that goes on with polls of a few participants.

    Kildare and sportsworld added to the table.
    Streets of Sligo and Fingal tri both scored a 4.0 but from 8 and 6 votes only.

    Having looked at a few of the results now and taking on the point regarding tris, I now feel 15 votes is the minimum and I'll be sticking to it.

    I'd also like to add that these polls should not be taken too seriously, there a guideline to how a race has performed (shenanigans happens) and if you want an overall balanced opinion you should read the race comments.
