Did somebody say.... God of War the movie?

It looks alright, but I fear the world might be getting a bit over stylized Roman-Greko weary...

Meh, but at least we know Cavill can get in shape for Superman.

And is that the girl from Slumdog Millionaire - stripping off? After the big deal Boyle made about getting her to kiss Dev Patel in a public place!

Mickey Rourke is playing the villian :)

looks kinda cheap tbh, more like a tv pilot than a big movie. Why cant someone just pump 100 mill into making an actual God of War movie? it'd be epic if they pulled it off properly (and kept it nicely gory ala the games)

Yeah, but in fairness, he is one of the most visual directors working in Hollywood today. And it couldn't be worse than the clash of the titans. (a.k.a clash of the sh*teans-just threw in a bit of HIlarious humor there for good measure. My thighs are literally red raw because that was so thigh slappingly funny)
(Seriously though, they should make more accurate Greeky type things and show us the actor's c*cks.)

my first impression is that they're just trying to milk 300... but doing it badly

i thought it was pretty good and this sort of thing is right up my street. though some of the costumes do look kinda naff (im thinking of pincher head here ).

that said am i the only one looking at that bloke with the bow and thinking ranger from the animated dungeons and dragons series ?

this just makes me wish someone would do that instead !

    :)

Looks great imo .. If if even looks have as great as The Fall then it will be amazing. Really like Tarsem's style .. hopfully the story will match the visuals.

Let us know what its like. I think it looks poor enough but the fact it's Tarsem Singh directing it has me curious.

I was always looking forward to see what Tarsem did next but...

The content here just doesn't appeal to me at all. The comparisons to 300 I've read particularly don't fill me with confidence (I truly despise 300).

Maybe I'll rent it on Blu-Ray and watch it with the sound off one of these years.

He's also doing the "other" snow white movie, Mirror Mirror.

I don't know what to make from the trailer but I'm intrigued and may well go to see it if I get time this weekend.

I get the feeling if I go in with low expectations that I'll be pleasantly suprised!

I noticed Cineworld are doing just as many 2D screenings as 3D ones today. Perhaps tehy are kopping on that people dont like the tacked on 3D fad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,988 ✭✭✭constitutionus

    thanks for that galvy !

my closest cinema is vue and those feckers are only showing the 3D version so far.

im not one of those thats rabidly against it but if ive the option ive no intention of watching this in 3D as i reckon itll be in the same league as clash of the titans was.

why the fup do these lads insist on doing 3D in flims that are too bloody dark for it ?

looks like cineworld is getting my money on this one.

    :)

Was looking forward to this but it seems that we got a cut version over here, seems the distributors cut the film in order to get a 15s not an 18 rating in the UK and as a result we get the cut UK version.

Yeah the editing seemed off when watching it, its just a text book screenplay with 300 style fighting.

Overall a pretty weak movie :(

Never got around to going yesterday. Will do today though. Someone told me there is one very surprising action sequence in it. Colour me interested.

saw this yesterday, very enjoyable. not sure what the very surprising action scene that person is talking about though. its all fairly run of the mill fodder

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

Ditto. I'm not really sure which fighting scene was the surprising one. Maybe it was in relation to how the film got OBSCENELY violent in the final third. I mean it was a violent enough movie but then it goes friggin' mental toward the end!
Full of plot holes and terrible acting, but makes up for it with action scenes that make 300 look somewhat modest by comparison.
Worth the admission price for the
epic double footed dropkick of doom
    alone.

Some of the lads are going to see this in our local cinema tonight. Only showing it in 3D though so I think I'll pass. Due to the aul blindness in one eye, it's wasted on me.

Might check it out in 2D in Cineworld tomorrow evening.

This movie was lacking in the cheddar dept. There could have been so many iconic lines but instead there were maybe one, or two. The fight scenes were great, and boy were there a lot of them but still a bit of a bore.

Saw it Friday, pretty awful stuff, trailer has all the best bits so just watch that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 627 ✭✭✭rossc007

Wanted to like it, but it fell short with the characters and the mangled mythology. As quoted before, some good fight scene's akin to 300, but nothing we didn't see in 300.

Mickey Rourke was the one redeeming feature for me and I generally don't like him.
There seemed to be an infinite number of titans when they where released, it appeared only 16 or so where locked up??

    Yes, yes they are

Thought this wasn't too bad at all. Story gets a bit muddled at times, but I really liked the mythology in it, the
box with the titans in it was quite a nice idea
Anything i ever saw with Cavill in it I wasn't too impressed with him, but he's pretty good in this, I can now see why they picked as the next Superman.

One thing I was very disappointed about was
the titans. they were basically just faster humans, not really something you would think would be the only people who could kill gods. Also re-spawning titans was ridiculous. there was like 16 in the cell at the start, and after killing what seemed 20 of them, there still remained about 12 right when the gods returned to the skies.

This film was middling, I was expecting it to be a fun film which would have some humour in it and which would have interesting larger than life characters. Sadly both of these elements were lacking. Particularly with respect to characterisation. I found it difficult to get drawn into the world of the film as the characters were bland, boring and one dimensional. This is the problem with so many Hollywood films, with Thor being a notable exception. Theseus didn't particularly inspire me with his speech, furthermore his fighting style should have gotten him killed but instead he sails through multitudes of soldiers like it as a cross between a football game and choreographed dance.

Also when Mickey Rourke says "tomorrow I will unleash the titans," I was expecting gigantic creatures, instead we got people who wandered off the set of 28 Days Later. The epic final battle scene promised so much but ended up in a tunnel and there wasn't much of a build up, only the "inspirational" speech and then suddenly "hey lets fight, without any strategy." We weren't shown the battle plan to be developed, the fortifications to be made or even much of the battle itself, just Theseus getting from A to B. The world seemed underdeveloped in that it focused too much on Theseus and his party getting from point A to point B for sake of the plot. And again the character development suffered too. So all in all a visually stunning film but a bit soulless and no Thor.

Pretty solid 7/10 for me, it's about Gods, mythical bows and arrows and the brazen bull. No need to look for plotholes. Switch off the noggin and enjoy.
