Need: 90w charger Dell Vostro

Ages ago now, my charger started making a strange noise and eventually stopped working.

A friend of mine had the same model laptop as me but his died, so he gave me his charger. Heres the thing, my laptop has a 8600m GT graphics card where as his didn't. So his charger is only 65w.

I get a message everytime its plugged in that it needs its 90w charger to give full power to the GPU etc. This wouldn't be an issue but I do use my laptop for gaming and as a result games run a lot worse then they used to.

My question is, how the hell do I get my hands on a 90w dell vostro charger?

I imagine they are no where near as common as a 65w one and this vostro is over 3 years old at this stage.

But I'm sick if my laptop being a lot weaker then it should be considering I payed good money to make sure it'd run games well. (I'm well aware of what it can and can't do gaming wise. )

    Advice?

I'm just wondering where I can go to buy a 90w charger that'll work with my dell laptop.

Coolermaster have a 90W universal charger, has the Dell tip (as any decent uni-charger should). €45 from Peats, might find it cheaper elsewhere

Think there is some craic with the laptop recognising whether it is a genuine dell charger or not. Don't know for certain but thats what I seen when looking for mine.

Yeah, I've had that before, its just a message saying that since its not a Dell part it may not conform to specs. etc. Didn't affect anything in my case, charger still powered & charged the laptop fine (It was a Pentium M, model number of the lappy escapes me at the moment)

Get a Dell PA-10 or PA-3E PSU, either of these will do the trick. I wouldn't recommend using a universal PSU on a Dell, some won't charge the battery.

A charger from Dell is 65ish quid. Pricey enough, but i'd rather genuine charger than a universal jobby.

Been well over a year since I started using my mates 65w vostro charger, my broken 90w one is still around somewhere but I'd have to search, i take it the number on the 65w one wont be any use for now.

Well what I mainly want from it is to let my laptop run its hardware at full speed, though it would be pretty ****ty if it didnt charge the thing too.

Cheers that looks like it alright, pain in the hole these things are so pricey. But I paid 800 euro for this damn thing a few years ago, so may aswell keep it running at full speed.

I've been wondering about this as my own 65W charger is no longer "recognised" by the damn laptop and it appears to be an issue with some chip or other in the charger unit and the third wire which goes from that chip to the laptop to report that "I'm a dell charger" etc.

My question is, are there any third party chargers which have the built-in chip to report that it is a valid charger? My laptop is an XPS M1330 and I have to borrow other people's chargers to charge my own battery. It also runs at a much slower speed:mad:

The only ones I've seen are knock-off Dells, one such one had a very dodgy looking label which was made out like a Dell original. It said "PN-12 Family" rather than PA-12 as on the official Dells. The PA-12 is a 65W PSU yet the BIOS detected this knock-off as a 150W.

The company I work for sell Dell original PSUs. I'd say where but I don't want to be plugging or spamming! :o

I took a chance on one on the Amazon website. Less than €30. Will be interesting to see how it goes. If it breaks I can always get one off that black cat pc site.
