    Hi all,

I'm looking to start a gaming club for 40k Warhammer fantasy & Magic: The Gathering and was wondering where most people host their club and what kind of arrangements they have with the places they host.

I'm interested in the costs & such.

Local game shops and universities tend to be two popular places. Where are you located? There may be groups already there able to give you better details.

I'm located in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal.

I havn't been able to find any other gaming clubs here.

    Hey man,

good to see you trying to set up a club in Donegal, I'm from Buncrana (but living in Dublin now) and recall how hard it's been for the club scene up there.

Magee have a 40k club as far as I can remember and they might be a good place to start since it's the closest to you possibly.

Until then if you're about Dublin or interested in tournaments around the country get over to http://onthestep.net/forum/index.php it's an Irish forum that predominantly discusses 40k and Warmachine etc.

There's also http://w-ired.org/forum/index.php which is more active in discussing fantasy.

There's quite a competitive buzz around Irish 40k at the moment and now is a good time to get into it if you're willing to travel to Ballymena, Dublin, Belfast, Galway for tournaments.

    Good luck!

    Joe

    Only once a year though.

It'd be great if Galway had a more active gaming scene.

What arrangements do you have with the venues? Money wise.

I am not involved with it anymore but I helped set up a junior games club here in Dublin for 12-18yr olds. We got support from the local youth service, ie trainging grants and access to community halls / venues. We held our games night once a week and paid quaterly rent that was covered by a small member fee of 2 quid a week.

Depending on who you are aiming your group at this might be an option to look in to. But the guidelines for operating this kind of club are very strict and you need to have really good booking keeping.

If you are looking for a more neutral venue with less strings see if your local library rents rooms out. This might work for you depending again on the size of the group you are looking to cater for.
