Heading to Galway (from Dublin) this weekend with a few mates and we are thinking about getting a game on the way down, preferably somewhere more than half way down.

Mix bag of handicaps so not looking for anything too difficult.

Any suggestions for a course doing a good deal and a good place for a social game?

http://www.newforest.ie/ is a really nice trek - they have green fee offers most weekends but it doesn't look like they do next weekend. Might be worth calling them.

New Forest is not more than half way down so if you wanted a course a bit further on http://www.glassongolfhotel.ie/ is a nice course too - especially the last 6 holes.

Have never played it but Glasson in Athlone is supposed to be very good, could be a bit pricey though.
Loughrea is a fine track and usually pretty reasonable for green fees, nice clubhouse for a spot of lunch before/after too.

Glassan might not suit higher handicaps though but I'm off 23 & love the place.

Moate / Mount Temple are also worth considering. Portumna is another nice course too

Esker Hills also worth considering. Close by, Good value, but unless your a scratch golfer its quite a leveller

Glasson is stunning. But not cheap.

    Clondalkin in Dublin

i've played it a good few times and while i'll never be a scratch golfer i've enjoyed it every time. All you need for esker is a buggy - forget about carrying a bag!!

Probably should have mentioned Esker Hills (http://www.eskerhillsgolf.com/) initially considering I am a member there.

Definitely agree with charlieIRL - would recommend that you get a buggy.
