Devices that deliver sensations to the skin surface of their users (i.e.--tight body suits and gloves) are also sometimes used in virtual reality to complete the experience. "Virtual sex"--in which two people are able to have sex with each other through virtual reality, or in which a human can have sex with a "simulated" partner that only exists on a computer—becomes a reality.

    Only 8 more years! :pac:

Humans will all die out some day.. Does it make anyone else sad that some time in the future distant relations of ours will be wiped out:(

In the end... The last remaining black hole will evaporate.

From that point onwards the universe is composed only of photons, neutrinos, electrons and positrons - with no way of interacting with each other.

The universe will continue to expand forever... but is essentially dead.

You want nutty, read two books by Olaf Stapledon: Last and First Men and Star Maker. I read the first one a month ago, which describes the evolution (natural and unnatural) of the human race, from our current First Men through to the Eighteenth or Last Men, who live on Neptune two billion years from now. Star Maker is a history of the whole universe, which I'm going to read next. Both books are available online, legally. These books have been hugely influential on other SF writers, especially Clarke.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

This is how I understood it when I read it, but I can't even begin to imagine it.

But does another Big Bang occur and the whole process begins over again? Human existence is a pre-scripted soap opera that runs and runs....my head is melted.

Just as visual- and auditory virtual reality have come of age, haptic technology has fully matured and is completely convincing, yet requires the user to enter a V.R. booth. It is commonly used for computer sex and remote medical examinations. It is the preferred sexual medium since it is safe and enhances the experience.

My guess it that they'll probably retro-fit old obsolete phone boxes.

I get the feeling that somebody's been watching too many repeats of Demolition Man!

No we can go even further than those particles. The second law will eventually claim them too. From a holographic principle point of view we go on until we reach a maximum entropy(information) value for all matter/energy contained in the universe. Constrained by the planck units. Think of it as reality being a bubble that started under a type of tension. It will expand until all they tiniest parts that make up the bubble expand to their tension-less length. I mean it literally. Reality is the surface horizon of the bubble. The world around us is shaped statistically by the kinematics or rules that govern the planck-length interaction between these strings, particles whatever they are. Gravity, space-time become an emergent phenomenon as interactions propagate across the universal horizon at the speed of light, plack speed which ever you like.

The 3D world perceived is maybe an isomorphic projection from the horizon. But the geometry/kinematics governing reality exist only in the planck instants. Without the ability to record past configurations in memory perception of reality and time would disappear.

Never realised how insignificant we are.

A c'mon most of the stuff we engage in as a species is essentially frivolous (even the things we think matter) making it quite possible our existence is essentially meaningless.

10e65....on this timescale all matter is liquid.....drink up!

another way to see what tiny specks of insignificance we are is to imagine all the human lives that came before us
all the hopes, dreams, achievements, failures, loves, losses etc and then realize they are all gone with very little evidence to mark the fact that even the greatest (or at least the ones that made the most impact) existed and what little evidence there is being eroded by day and in all likelihood eventually irretrievably lost.

Yet another way is to simply try to grasp the sheer scale of the universe and compare our size to it.

Not to mention that the atom is essentially empty space.

No...not even that matters..sure it seems like it might be fun..but there's just no point man..its all meaningless.

It does very much trivialize most of my worries, our countries woes and even our civilizations achievements.

The earth existence is really only the blink of an eye, and anything thereon is so infinitesimally brief its a bit depressing... anyway, where was I, Goo and looting, ah yes...

It's all bogus. By the time the sh1t hits the fan we will all have Deloreans and we'll just cruise back to the old days when it wasn't 13,000 degrees celcius at 0 degrees latitude.

    No need to worry.
