UK Medical Card

I'm planning to do a top-up year in Swansea to bring my BTEC HND up to a Degree.

As my Irish medical card won't be renewed when studying abroad, does anyone know if Irish people studying in the UK are eligible to apply for a UK medical card (or whatever their equivalent is)?

    Thanks

    Brian

Moved to NI & GB Colleges

You are entitled to free medical care in the UK so it's effectively the same service you'd enjoy at home, only minus the wee plastic card. Once you arrive in Swansea you go to a local/campus GP and register with them, fill out a couple of forms and then you'll receive a paper medical card in the post from the local health authority. You can see the GP etc. prior to the card arriving - it's no hassle to sort out and you're automatically entitled to it.
