The Final Higgins v Trump

Today sees the start of the two day final, as expected by many people on the boards site John Higgins has made it from his half, in his last two sessions he put Williams under so much pressure the normally relaxed Williams folded completly, Higgins played match snooker of the highest order and fully deserves his place in the final.
Judd Trump is his opponent in the final and you can do nothing but admire this young mans play attitude and charisma over the last 15 days, he has knocked out the defending champion, beat Greame Dott with considerable ease and came from behind on two occassions to beat Ding Junhui.
He is a breath of fresh air to the game and reminds me a lot ofwhen Shaun Murphy won in 2005.

Wheter he has the game to play Higgins in a world final will be found out over the next two days, he can handle the one table set up that we know, but Higgins is a completly different player and over the best of 35 frames i fancy Higgins to win and win with a couple of frames to spare.
We know that Trump is a great front runner but Williams is the same and Higgins still clawed his way back in that match to win.

I know there are lots of people out there who still have Higgins down as corrupt and that he should have recieved a longer ban, but when you look at what he has done since his return to snooker last november its nothing short of incredible and taking into account the death of his father in February it makes his achievements all the more better.
He will always have that cloud over his head but all he can do is to keep winning and to prove to some of the so called snooker experts outthere that he would have no reason whatsoever to throw a snooker frame or frames.

Obviously anyone who has read my posts about Higgins in the past will know i'm a friend of his and would be delighted if he was to win his fourth world title but i think whoever wins it will be a victory for snooker it's been a great tournament, a great season and finally after ten or so years of doubt in the game the future for snooker is looking fantastic.

Here's hoping for a great final.

Ive said Trump will win this from the 1/4 finals and im sticking with him, as hard as Higgins is playing, hes been there for the taking in most of his matches and i dont see that changing for the final, its just a matter of whether Trump can finish the job..

I think Trump will come out all guns blazing trying to put fear into Higgins, which isn't going to work as John is too experienced. I think Trump will start off very strong and may lead the first 2 sessions then Higgins will prove to be too strong and win 18-14 in around that score line.

    Here's hoping for Higgins.

I love watching Trump play but he has plenty of time to win many more - this is a big year for John - probably his biggest yet - and looking at this years standard I think he'll start finding it very difficult from now on.

I think Trump had an easier route to the final, apart from playing Robertson. Higgins had Ronnie and Williams, players that are in my opinion stronger than Dott and Ding. Trump really hasn't been pushed too much apart from the Ding match and yes he came outta that the winner but Ding really should of polished him off and I feel Higgins will if he gets his chance.

I'm not saying Trump doesn't deserve to be there or anything, I just think Higgins has played better match snooker under extreme pressure from two of the finest players there is these days. I feel Trump will crumble to Higgin's pressure.

What a pink from John there after the poor blue. Savage shot tbh.

I don't blame Judd going for the pot on the blue, the safety was dangerous.

I know it's his game and he has been potting some incredible balls but he really pushed the boat out on that blue.
A big big moment in the match, one things for sure both players are feeling the pressure, strangely Higgins more I feel.

If Higgins can win two out of the next three frames we are set up for a grandstand finish tonight.

    Still fancy Higgins to win.

    Wheels coming off for Trump?

This is where Higgins's vast expeirience begins to come into play, every final always has a turning point and I believe the missed blue by Trump in the 22nd frame will be pivotal, he had the chance to go four frames clear and is now looking at going into tonight one frame behind.

Atmosphere is amazing and that's just in the media room!!

Looking like Trump has blown his chance, from a great chance of being 4 frames up,to end the session 13-12 down is a body blow, the experience of Higgins is really showing now, hope Trump can refind his potting this evening:)

    End of session 3:

    Higgins 13(35)12 Trump

He's won that session 6-2, WOW.

what time you reckon it might finish tonight, approx? i know its hard to judge, 1 frame could take an hour.!!

I'd imagine it won't go on past 10 o'clock. After all they have now played 25 frames rather than the usual 24 at this point and also they are starting an hour earlier than in previous years.

John Higgins is world champion 18-15

first of all congrats to John, he and family must be elated considering the year he has had.

However, I found it difficult to fully root for him as I would still be uneasy over his explanation of the match fixing claims.

Steve Davis said just before the last frame that he is the best player he ever saw....that's a huge statement considering the tenure that Davis has had. I would have thought that Hendry was better but Davis is not to be argued with.

Was'nt Davis quite openly lashing Higgins for match fixing last year suring the world championship final?

I think any statements made by Davis would have been prefixed with the caveat "if he is proven guilty".
