I have €700 for a new road bike, have two in mind.
Claud Butler Roubaix 2011 Road Bike
GT GTR Series 5 2011 Road Bike (both online, both €672 plus €25 delivery)

Can anyone recommend a better bike in my price range, I have being searching donedeal and adverts for months looking for a bike second hand (5ft 11, 56-58 frame) but to no avail.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, looking to buy soon.

Cant recommend which is the better bike, but what i would say is i was looking for a bike aswell bought one yesterday what id say is keep on looking your going to get a much better spec'd second hand lightly used bike then a new bike with poor components on it. i would say hold on a bit longer and live on these websites keep checking them every hour until something pops up.
    donedeal.ie
    adverts.ie
    gumtree.ie
    buyandsell.ie
    and of course boards.ie
also ring round a few bike stores u never know what they might get in.
    best of look

Well that Trek has Sora shifters which is normally a base line Id not be willing to drop down to .Certainly not for 570...ok so he has extras (tri bars and clipless pedals but the former may be irrelevant to you -spose ya can always sell them but I wouldnt want to pay more than 400 even for a NEW Sora equipped bike .Tiagra is just so much better.(Shimano groupsets)

Now, where are you going to get a NEW Racer for €400 that is Sora equipped?
I went window shopping/investigating the other day, and €800 bikes don't even come fully Sora equipped.

BTW, I have a full 8spd triple Sora on this bike, and it works perfectly. And I mean perfectly. For someone starting out, there is nothing wrong whatsoever with Sora.
The only complaints I've heard form LBS owners about Shimano equipment at the the moment is about newer Dura-Ace and Ultegra being very soft and not lasting.

Sorry if i'm wrong but a 8 Speed gear set for a TT bike.. not saying theirs nothing wrong with them i have a 1.2 bike myself looking to buy a new bike but going to use my 1.2 bike on my Turbo Trainer slap one some bigger Wheels make it bit more harder to cycle with..

There is a few bargains to be got by keeping an eye on adverts and donedeal. I picked up a half decent roadbike trek 1000sl discovery channel edition, cycled twice and came with proper peddles, shoes, cycling hi vis jacket, bike rack, gloves and track pump all for 350! Ok it has sora shifters but they work perfectly 300 miles in. There's another 1000sl on adverts a few weeks ago on adverts with loads of extras going for about 400 ish which you could probably haggle down that and the extra few bob you have would all the upgrades you need.

Any thoughts on this Raleigh lads??
Am trawling through these pages and shops the last few days, waiting til something seems great value, this looks good.

    Is it though??

Anyone able to give some advice on the raleigh in the post above??
Just eager to get a bike now, and if this isn't good value, i am going to the shop today to buy a Ridley.

Am beginning to get to know the terminology of this bike stuff, but still not as knowledgeable as most posters on here. So any help is appreciated..

    Thanks.

The Raleigh looks nice, it doesn't seem to mention whether it's 8 or 9 speed.
Could be an issue further down the line...

I have picked up one of those alu raleigh bikes and it was very heavy, particularly towards the back. Raleigh aren't the brand they once were, though the are recovering slowly. A review here agrees with my sentiments on the frame, though its a slightly different model. That said the Raleigh will do a job.

I would save another 100 and get this boardman or if you're small they have a 2010 version in a small size left.
