I am 18 male around 5' 10" and thin. I am extremely self conscious about my arms and chest area and want to bulk up. I have trouble eating whereby I gag and get sick randomly (going to the doctor but they don't have a clue whats up)

Need your advice. Whats the best way to bulk up quickly. Are there foods that are cheap to buy & easy to eat on the go I should be eating?

Seriously? A few months back I was drinking about 2 or 3 liters a day but calmed down cos I thought it might be bad drinking that amount. Hmmmm

I've tried the GOMAD diet but could never get the 4 litres down. Might go back just doing 2 litres a day.

OP asked for cheap foods and has trouble eating. Milk is so cheap and he should have no problems sucking down a few pints of the stuff aday.

Only way to bulk up is by hitting the gym hard and eating a lot.Milk seems like a good option for you since you have trouble eating, maybe mashed potatoes too especially when theyre creamy can't be to hard right??a much privier option would be to take a weight gainer supp.Like for example kineticas oat gain has 600 calories per serving in it.Just make sure you eat more than your body expends in a day.

Used to drink about 2Liters of milk mixed with protein, would do 500ml at a time with protein 4 times a day. After a few weeks u will notice weight gain. After a month of this i had put on about 8 to 9pounds "was also eating cheese before going to bed at night time, which might not suit your self".

I'd say they have a fair idea what's up but it'll take time to get your head around it.

Is this another case of asking the same multiple questions in different forums hoping for a response that the OP wants to hear?

This was more aimed at what weights and stuff I could do and then just on the side a bit about food.

Care to expand? Don't see why they would be continually doing more and more tests if they new what was wrong with me?

Well in fairness, you didn’t mention anything about weights originally. All you said is you want to bulk up, which involves food. Then you mentioned your trouble with eating, preceded by asking for advice on foods you should be eating.

So realistically, the whole post was nutrition based.

I've had first hand experience of basically the exact same thing as what you're describing.

I don't have a medical background so I'm not going to say what I think it is - it's not my place.

All I was saying in my original post was that I'd imagine your GP/consultant has a fairly good idea what it is.

Fair enough. It just came across as you trying to be smart. My GP and the three different specialists I have been to all have no idea. If they did, I think they would tell me and try and treat it.

My advice is for after you getting your issue with eating sorted, should probably make sure everything is OK before you start any drastic changes to your diet...

If you really want to gain weight then drink 4 litres of milk a day and start lifting free weights. It will be hard at the start but if you seriously want to gain weight then you will drink the 4 litres no matter what.

I GUARANTEE results if you drink 4 litres a day for 4 weeks.

Well that is silly. Drinking 4 litres of milk a day won't do anything if the routine is crap, he eats rubbish otherwise, and has chronic insomnia, for example.

You need good food, good exercise and good rest to make progress. If one of those is terrible, it won't matter too much how good the other two are.

    Kind of goes without saying.

There's no point in trying to gain weight if your diet consists of mighty munch and sugar puffs, you don't get enough sleep and you sit on the couch all day.

For a complete beginner it might not go without saying.

This is true. I'm a complete beginner and I've no idea what I should be doing.

Since the 1st of May I decided to drink 4 liters a day, but I'm starting with 2 a day for this week. Next week I'll go with 3-4. I'm trying to eat 3 square meals a day with the milk spread out over the day. I'm not sure what to eat, but I was thinking just eat how I normally would with the milk added in.

Where I'm totally lost is the exercise. I read that squats are the best thing to accompany this diet, but how many? How often? I'm doing push-ups too, trying to hide my chicken chest behind some muscle. :)

    Anyone care to advise? Thanks!

when i drank complan (made with milk) regularly i bulked up so you could maybe try that? or there might be better alternatives to incorporate into a training programme that someone on here could suggest, protein shakes or the likes?
it'll also help you feel full if you cant eat proper food for whatever that reason may be. although id obviously try to sort your problem out and get yourself on a proper diet plan soon.
    hope this helps.

Squats: Look at instructional videos online to see how to perform them safely. 2-5 sets of 5-12 repetitions 1-3 times a week...programmes typically vary greatly within these ranges. Within the specified range, higher reps = more growth, lower reps = greater strength increase. Also more reps = more DOMS in my experience (delayed onset muscle soreness - muscle stiffness really). Dont do them two days in a row.

Bench press would be better than pressups for building muscle, especially as you get stronger.

Deadlifts also extremely effective. Even more important to pay attention to proper form with these than with squats. Bad form is quite likely to result in injury I think.

Use compound exercises with free weights, and exercise all muscle groups about the same amount

To be honest, untill they can sort your problem I can't see much you can do. Without decent nutrition and good rest gaining any bulk or muscle will be difficult. You'll be able to gain fat, but muscle is much more difficult.
Gaining muscle is prob down to 80% diet, and 20% training.
Sorry to be negative, but you dont wanna go make yourself ill. Without knowing what is wrong with you I wouldn't want to be advising you on anything. Good luck though, and be carefull.
