I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any free (or donation based) Counselling Services in the country. I seem to have a fair few problems at the moment with little ability to cope with them. I have feck all money after losing my job and suffer from bipolar disorder. Besides the fact that I should still be on medication, nothing I do nowadays seem to help and it's getting worse. I see a Psychiatrist, but I have no one to chat too and can't afford a Counsellor as a requirement to another issue I have. Any suggestions please?

I'd suggest asking your GP and your Psychiatrist for referals and look at if you qualify for a medical card.

Hey dude. I was referred to a psychiatrist, which i saw yesterday. In the waiting room i saw a load of posters for support groups for depression and other disorders. I suffer from depression myself and to be honest even to know that there were groups out there, it made me feel a bit better. :D

There may not be free counsellors but there could be support groups that you could go and be a part of. You know a problem shared is a problem solved. :)

Maybe check with your GP and he could let you know. There's stuff out there i'm sure, but its a matter of finding out. Even having a look around your local health centre (community GP) you dont know what type of info you might find out.

Best of luck my good man. :)

I have a Psychiatrists appointment next week, so I might try and get them to sort a few things out for me and try and get a few medication adjustments. I just can't cope at the moment, even feeling that there's one permanent to it all. :(

There is stuff out there, so quiz the psychiatrist on it big time. There's a range of services out there.

If you can get out tomorrow go for a look and see what might be advertised. Then you can be forearmed going into the Psychiatrist and ask them exactly what is on offer and how you can avail of it.

I find for myself anyways, that even doing a little bit every day, makes the bigger gloomier picture feck off a bit.

You just got to keep chiselling away. One day at a time. :)

Try Tivoli, they have counsellors that work on a sliding scale from 10-25 euro

    Hi OP,

Yeah definately ask psych they should put you in the right direction.

Also, google "low cost counselling" see what comes up. (with low cost though often you will be dealing with newly qualified counsellors)

For depression Aware are really good. They have a help line, also have group meetings throughout the country and now have an online group counselling facility where you log in and say whats going on for you. It takes a bit of getting used too but it's nice to know you are not alone.

    Best lo luck

Shine based in Cork City, South Terrace has a good counselling service. It costs 10E per session if you are a member of Shine and not working. It costs 30E per session if you are working. It costs 10E for the year to become a member of Shine. If you google Shine you should find all the necessary info. Luck :)
