HD 3000 is comparable to entry level graphics. Good review here. It's a bit longish but not overly complicated. It compares it to a Nvidia GeForce 310M. (Scroll down for game benchmarks). Your looking for a card that will play the game you want at at least 30fps (frames per second).

    It's an improvement...

Whoa, thats certainly a good deal for a laptop pf that spec, Its certainly a sandy bridge i3(And there as fast as a 2010 i5) and 6gb of ram is more than necessary. I imagine it would come loaded with bloatware but a fresh install of windows and this would be a very quick laptop indeed. By the way, the 469€ model also has a sandy bridge i3, the same as in the dearer one

Just a note with acers though, in the last year, they have become great value considering the spec but with a laptop like this, as good as the spec is, it will still feel like a fairly basic laptop, aesthetically that is. The 5742 model anyway, had grand build quality and all that but still felt a bit cheap IMHO, and there was some cost cutting, only a mono speaker for example. Dont know if this is the same with the 5750 but it would be worth having a look at in store for sure

Haha good decision, even good aul saveonlaptops would find it hard competing with that deal! :D I'd strongly advise re-installing windows if you can though, it will really help it longterm, and make it way faster. With 6gb of ram, it should be really quick! :)

As in at the moment, your pc is as acer wanted it, loaded with software that is in most cases useless and and is slowing your pc down, whether you like it or not. To get rid of this, go through your programs and get rid of all those you will never use. This doesn't get rid of all that software(Or bloatware, as its usually labeled, got obvious reasons) fully though, the best option is to put the standard windows 7 on the laptop, and the standard windows 7 has only whats needed, any software you want to put on it is your choice. An advantage of this is that the computer is as fast as it can be.

how can i reinstall it, do i eh ... download it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,533 ✭✭✭Zonda999

this is where it gets a bit tricky, ye see you should be able to use a generic windows 7 installation disc and then use the windows 7 licence key that you got with the laptop but i am not sure if you are able to do this. Possibly some one else can verify this?

In the mean time, and you may find it a much simpler thing to do, is go through that programs list and get rid of all those crap games and internet security free trials that came with the laptop. There should easily be 20 or 30 things that will need deleting. What you should do too is go to the task manager, and see whats using the most memory, that will show you if theres anything non essential than can be deleted. Also, in the search bar in the start menu, type in "msconfig" and that will bring you to somewhere you can see what processes are automatically started up upon startup, you can simply tick all the non essential ones, this will make the pc usefully quicker when starting up. These are general tips to improving the performance, but obviously the windows re-install would be more effective

    nevaeh-2die-4 and Roar,

    1.what's the build quality like?

2.Does the fan kick in much?

3.Does it get hot if you play a Full HD (1080p) film on it? If you have that is.

    I've other questions but I can't think....

As for re-installing windows, I wouldn't bother at all. Just delete what you don't want and run CCleaner on it.

If someone does want to go down the re-install route read this thread but make your own backup CDs before you do this incase of trouble.

Actually, a Backup is the one thing you should do before you go online.

haven't noticed the fan to be honest Hal, but i've only used it for a couple of hours so far.

haven't tried a 1080p film yet so can't tell you if it heats up, i'll test it later when i get home

the build quality is pretty good, the keys make a very satisfying "clack" noise.. odd i know, but that kind of thing pleases me! :D

any other questions just shout! can't wait to get home from work and start putting it through its paces!

I got one about two weeks ago. I was fairly happy with it at first, however the touchpad is seriously dodgy. Sometimes, it gets stuck or tries to zoom when your try to move your finger across.

Earlier this week, it stopped working entirely. So I can only use my laptop with a mouse attached. I am going to return it this week.

Don't put off returning it, after 28 days they'll send it off for repair.

    Thanks for the tip!!

Just an update... Un-installed and reinstalled the driver software and got the touch pad working again. Must have been a driver issue.

However, the touch-pad is still a little dodgy!!

i know this is slightly old, but it may be of interest to others looking for a new laptop.

i've come across it here for €471 (plus delivery):
    http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5750_1086986.html

seems like a great deal, 2nd gen i3 processor, 6gb ram, usb3 port, HDMI port, integrated webcam, has a good quoted battery life compared to other models.

has anyone who has this laptop had any issues/annoyances with it?
