I see there is an Scratch Cup on at The Heath this weekend....... Any opinions on the course?? Is it worth a trip from Greystones?? At a loose end this weekend so looking at opens etc.
    Thanks in advance!

I was a member of the Heath some years ago. It is a lovely course and well worth a trip.

I played down there last July and thought it was very ordinary.

There was also a lot of sheep roaming around the course so it was very annoying to have to clean s**t off my ball / shoes repeatedly (it was literally everywhere).

I wouldn't play it again myself but then I'm not sure if the sheep thing is an all year round problem down there..

I wouldn't call it 'ordinary' - it's a good heathland stretch (one of only a handful) and the sheep add a certain something to your day, as well as to your shoes. With the gorse out the course will look great. Condition will be good, without being over-manicured or exceptional. And it's a friendly place.

I'd say it was well worth a visit.

Agreed, it's anything but ordinary and is an experience you can only have in a few places.

+1 on the friendliness too. I love dropping down for a game there.

Ah I don't know - I just think that if I was the OP and drove over from Greystones I think I'd like a little more for my time.

Please don't get me wrong - the track was fine and the clubhouse and pro shop was very welcoming. The 10th (I think) was a nice par 3.
But nothing really stood out for me enough to want to go back a second time..

Maybe it's just down to the fact that I have enough things going on in my head before a shot - without having to worry about sheep clearing from the fairways / greens!!
