hi lads i have to install a bathroom,,,,,now the only real trouble is i have to alter the toilet a small bit,,,,so the soil stack is on the inside of the house and is cast iron,,,,,,now i have to move the toilet to the left lets say so it means the pipe has to be shortened,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,do ye think i should try cut it with a grinder,,,,,doing this could disturb the joint at the tee,,,,,,or should i take the section out of the tee and put a plastic 4inch pipe in and fill the gap with something,,,,,,im sure the diametres arent the same surely,,,,,,,,anyone try this

yes i had to use plastic pipe into the cast iron tee . first i cleaned the tee really well with wire wool etc on the inside, and when the plastic pipe was sitting in i sealed it well all around with tec 7 and left it to set for the day. The diameters were a good bit different but as long as its cleaned and filled properly there shouldnt be a issue.

I had no other option in the situation as the owners budget was extremely limited, but its 3 years in now and is still perfect.

If it was me I would cut it with a grinder although it would be a bit dusty , it shouldn't disturb the joint at the t , that's just me as I don't like touching internal cast iron pipework , keep in mind though you can't get a bent multiwik for cast pipework you would have to use a multiwik extension for cast and fit a bent into this , so you might be tight for space to do this which could mean that you would have no choice but to remove the pipe from the tee .

you can use a chain cutter to cut it if you can borrow one

ok thats a bit big but you get the idea

flamco rubber couplings will join the clay to plastic for you

    like above but different brand.

the one i did had some rope/jointing compound squeezed into it but it was so old its hard to be sure , i cut the pipe back with a grinder as close to the tee as i could and then gently used a big flathead and hammer to tap out the jointing material.
