I used to love this guy, that whole Red Star team was class. He was a bit of a legend at Marseille.

He played under Wenger in Japan in the 90's. He spent most of his career out in Japan, and Yugoslavia split up in the early 90's most people forgot about him due to them not being allowed compete in international competition. They could've had a team containing Stojkovic, Savicevic, Boban, Suker, Boksic, Prosinecki, Pancev, Mijatovic, Mihajlovic but weren't able to compete in 92 or 94 when these players were at their height. Croatia showed in 96 and 98 what could've been

Now that would have been some team

Wengers already gone on record to say if he was choosing his successor, it would be Dragan.

    So would I.

    And so do the tabloids.

    "Enter the Dragan"
    "Dragan's Den"
    etc. etc. etc.

If he takes the Milwall job maybe.

I remember when he was with Red Star and there was all the talk that he was going to be a huge star. There were rumours of him joining Milan and a couple of other clubs but he never joined any of them and then went he went Marseille a year or two later. He never really was a huge star but he was known to be a decent top level footballer.

I used to love Yugoslavia, crying shame they weren't allowed enter Euro 92 it would've been theirs, especially considering the irony of the Danes winning. One of the first European cup finals i really remember was Red Star and Marseille.

Dragan Stojkovic was a massive part of my early life, interestingly he watched as i learned to masturbate*... Ill never forget those tender days

*massive poster over the end of my bed

the man was seriously talented but got hit with some nasty injuries which messed up the big move to France and it was a serious big move as that Marseille team where top of the pops at the time.
I remember he turned him self in to a pure play maker later in the carer after the pace went, had a serious eye for the pass and a whicked free kick.

to be voted star of red star is the ultimate endorsement that the guy good play

Cracking documentary made by Canal+ about that team, some of the players were best of mates but never spoke to each other again after the war.

Interviews all the players from the squad that qualified for 92 , made around 2003 will find the name.

    GK:
    Fahrudin Omerovic
    Zvonko Milojevic

    DF:
    Predrag Spasic
    Darko Milanic
    Vujadin Stanojkovik
    Ilija Najdoski
    Budimir Vujacic
    Faruk Hadzibegic

    MD:
    Vladimir Jugovic
    Branko Brnovic
    Slavisa Jokanovic
    Dejan Savicevic
    Mehmed Bazdarevic
    Dzoni Novak
    Sinisa Mihajlovic

    AT:
    Dragan Stojkovic
    Vladan Lukic
    Mario Stanic
    Darko Pancev
    Predrag Mijatovic

    Coach:
    Ivica Osim

Savicevics performance in ACs destruction of Barca prolly the single greatest performance i ever seen from a single player. Imo the best player from that squad.

Off topic, but what a game and What a Goal that was. The sheer audacity to try an lob Zubizeretta (sp?) from there

Ah absolutely class player. Only saw his later years live so to speak, but quality all round. Fairly handy in the old Pro Evo games too :-O

Darko Pancev's fall from grace was one of the most disappointing I've seen. He was an absolute animal before he went to Inter. He and Bergkamp should have been a phenomenal partnership.
