Training in Dublin

    HI Folks.

I was wondering what the story would be about joining a team for training as a way of getting fit. I would be interested in training with a team and maybe being a blood sub perhaps if required. I have never played rugby before but at 6'4 and 16 stone I have been told I would be ideal for the sport although at 31 I would assume I have left it too late.

So does anyone know if this is possible and if so what teams would they recommend?

    cheers

    frAg

    Where are you based

Wherever in dublin it is I'm sure there is a local club that would have a J4/5 standard team that wouldn't mind a new player even at 31 years old

I'm sure someone here can point you to a club in your area

I live near Heuston Station, D8.

I assume j4/5 is the beginners league then? Suits me perfect........

    Cheers Ciaran,

beginners, sligtly aged individuals, casuals who only train occasionally, it takes all sorts and I beleive its a mix of the lot.

J5 is scrummaging optional while J4 is a higher standard and with compulsory scrummaging

I don't know the clubs the area well but someone will be probably be along soon enough plugging their club that is relatively local and with a decent J5 program

    Thanks again,

Either would be fine with me. My main objective is to get fit, healthy and get out in the fresh air. Having something sessioned in a few times a week makes this easier for me.

Looking forward to hearing from the others,

Guinness would probably be the nearest J4 team to you. The play in the Iveagh Grounds on Crumlin Road.

For J5 your nearest teams would be Clontarf, Bective (they sometimes train up in the Dublin Mts so you might need a car), St. Marys, Terenure.

They would be out of your way but I've heard very good things from people who have joined Tallaght and Stillorgan on boards. They seem to have a good set up at J4/5 level for people who are getting back into the game or who have never played before. If you are able to travel I would recommend them.

Cheers for that, sounds like a plan.

Not knowing much about where you play but would the Red Luas line be close enough if I was to head out that way?

    Cheers

Just had a good read of the website and very impressed esp with Tallaght looking for people with no previous experience to come and join. The testimonials from some of the players are a great selling point too.

Is there a cost to join? I would be interested in calling out to have a chat some eve to check the place out but it seems ideal to me.

Clontarf also have plenty of "experienced with life" individuals playing j4/j5, and plenty of newcomers to the game too.

A few lads live kilmainham direction so i'm sure lifts could be a possibility. Otherwise getting the dart or a bus from town shouldn't take too long.
