Bench Purchase - Advice?

    Hi All,

I posted here before and received some great feedback, however that was 6+ months ago and just checking to see if theres any updates now.

Basically I'm in the market for a new bench at home. I'm gonna use the summer to get fit and lose weight (bench will be part of a routine including cycling etc). I currently have an old York bench bought in Argos years ago, but no matter how tight i make it, I just dont feel confident or comfortable on it. I'm a big guy, 19stone and very broad so think that also adds to the york bench just not being enough.

The Bench I currently have is similar to this.

So, I've been looking online on sites recommended here and else where. I havent got massive space to use so thats an issue obviously.

So, the benches I was looking at are:
    1. Narrow Bench - only issue I see with this one is that it doesnt go fully horizontal (This one was recommended here previously).
    2. Multifunction Looks better put together than the york one and offers good functionality.
    3. Multifunction Same as 2 above but different make.

My max budget would be around the €200 mark. I'd appreciate any advise, I dont know too much about home equipment.

    Thanks in advance,

    Rob

I personally wouldn't go benching unless I had a spotter system in place. It's fine for light weight high rep stuff but for safety reasons I'd have to have spotter bars.

I'd buy a good incline/ decline bench for now and forget about the barbell holder. You're much safer using just dumbells until you organize some type of spotter arrangement, power rack, half rack.

I bought a crap bench before and it's sitting out the back gathering rust.

I finally managed enough for a good bench and power rack. If I'd bought a good bench to begin with I'd have had the power rack much sooner.

You could buy this for now:

If you have the room you could work on saving for this:

I have them both and they are really solid. Sorry to go off on a tangent, that's just my 2 cents.

    Thanks for the advice.

I hear what your saying, but i dont aim in lifting too heavy weights, I'm fairly big anyway so its mainly toning. I'd like a good functional bench really that gives me options of use.

Then I'd go for the irish lifting bench, Mick does stock quality stuff.

I'd love to get that one to be honest, but I dunno if I'd have to space for it. The narrow bench might be the best one for me in that sense.

    Thanks Niall.

Thats very similar to the one I have. I dont find my one particularily sturdy so want one I'm more confident with.

Damn, i visited my friend this Monday and he has Home Gym, it's great things, i think about buying something like that instead of this bench, it seems to be much more useful for me:
Herculean Layflat Home Gym for €272
    BENY9043.jpg

he said that should be enough for me to train almost every part of my body.
