I got a nexus S about 2 weeks ago. I have put music on it but when I try to put more onto it it does not show on the phone. When I connect it to the computer it tells me it is on th phone but when I go to the library about 1/4 of what is supposed to be on the phone is showing.

I've deleted everything and started again and now even less is showing up on the phone 5 albums showing when I tried to put about 15 on??

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong or what should I do? I'm getting sick of the bit of music I have on it already!

Firstly have you installed a file manager like astro? How did you sync your music. I just dropped mine in. I have had no problems.

I plugged the phone in to the computer and turned on the USB storage. Refreshed the sync on windows media player and dragged and dropped. Not ally of what I wanted to put on it went on it. (it didn't show in the library) but when I went onto music through "my computer" it told me I had all the music I did put on it, on it.

I'm getting frustrated now. Any suggestions? ANYONE?!

Firstly, do not use windows media player to sync. Just copy the files over manually. Use windows file explorer to copy from your hard drive to the phones music folder on sdcard. Very easy.

Now, note that android won't play FLAC, or wma (on some models). Are all your files mp3s? Then there will be no problem.

Finally, are you "unmounting" the usb properly? Androids media scanner should run then, this is necessary for it to "pick up" the new files. Do not just pull the cable out, this can corrupt files. Does windows prompt you to "check for errors" when you mount usb? Let it do a quick scan and it will fix errors, check the box for "scan all sectors" to do a longer more thorough scan. Your sdcard may have bad sectors.

I have a Nexus S, I copy my mp3s on it and they just work. No magic involved. I'm lazy and store my mp3s in dropbox tho :D

It sounds like you could be transferring wma files and Nexus wont recognise them. Try installing Poweramp from Market and see if they show up.

Ok neither of these things are working for my phone? Is it a lost cause? When I go onto the music folder everything is there I've deleted reloaded and downloaded apps. It shouldn't be this fecking hard. My HTC was brilliant plug it in music is on pop in the earphones and off you go!

    Stupid phone!

You still haven't said what format the files are in. WMA format won't work.

The files are in WMA. I downloaded a free version of poweramp and is recognizing the songs but when I play it fast forwards through all the music and doesn't play them at normal speed. There are little shrieks from the phone which I guess is really fast music. I dunno why it's doing it?

Ugh? Anything else I can do?

Convert them to mp3. Most android devices don't have hardware codecs for proprietary formats like wma. This means any wma player app is doing it in software, which means it guzzles battery and crashes when you fastforward or whatever as you have discovered. Android devices do have mandatory support for various formats: http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/media-formats.html Manufacturers are free to add support for more, but as you can see WMA is not required. Would need to pay microsoft licence money for that I suspect.

MP3 is not open either I think, Google would have had to pay Fraunhofer Institute money to licence it?

On the computer or on the phone?

How do I do this? :o

It's not a stupid phone. Doesn't say "wma player" on the box anywhere.

Right this is a job for the boyfriend. I'll let you know how I get on. This phone has definately outsmarted me. :p My HTC was much more straightforward! :o

You are right in that HTC add additional WMA support to their android phones.

Nexus S is "vanilla android" which is actually a good thing in some ways since you get updates first. There is an update that gives you voice+video chat for google talk right now for example (see other thread about gingerbread 2.3.4 update), no other phone officially has this yet.

It's not difficult to convert the music to mp3, but get someone to help yes. In the future, don't let windows media player convert all your stuff to wma and you won't have this problem.

I work in a phone shop and I've never come across anything like this before

The wonders of technology. The boy will be able to do this in record time, the fun will be when he is trying to explain it to me! :D Thank you so much for your help. Was getting pretty frustrated at the lack of music....

I'll let ye know how I got on though! :)
