Evening... I just went out and bought a second hand Peugeot 103 (bicycle, not the mopped:)) in perfect condition as far as I can tell.

Is 50euro a good price to have paid for it? It doesnt bother me, but more out of curiosity.

I need new tyres for it, and the rims are 27x1 inch. I can only find 27 x 1 1/4, is this ok? And what size tube would fit in there?

Sorry for all the questions, I just really want to leave the car home for the run to work. Thanks!

    Oisin

    Welcome to our world:)
Considering what petrol costs these days it sounds like a good deal, and regarding the tyres, one of the rubber technophiles on the forum will know!

The tyres will be fine. The tyre size is about 31mm in metric, so get 700c tubes in that range (e.g. the Continental Tour 28 Slim, which is 700 x 28-37). You could use narrower tubes at a push (e.g. 700x18-25).

€50 is less than many people would spend on a set of tyres, so getting a functioning bike for that price is good.

Peugeots are very 'avaunt garde' if it's in good order thats a pretty good price.
    Does it look like this?

Bargain! At €50 it'll have paid for itself in a couple of weeks. A brake/cable service might be a good idea if the bike hasn't been ridden in a long time. Why don't you post up some pics if you get the chance?

Bouldwhacker.. Ya thats the one, in maroon red though.

I used to tinker around with bikes when I was younger so I gave it a good once over last night, cant find anything wrong with it. I replaced the tyres with Kendas and new tubes for the sake of it. Its strange to ride (like Im going to snap it in half) being so used to heavier mountain bikes.

HappyTramp.. Ill give it a polish up this weekend and post of a pic, its a bit dusty.

Lumen.. thanks but I only read this now. I ended up buying two kendas 27 x 1 1/4 which fit perfect.
