Could I get you to price the two cars below. I have no pictures of the cars but here are some the details. On the lookout for a car for a friend of mine and is interested in buying one of the following which are for sale.

    1. 2002 Golf GT TDI 1.9 (150BHP) 116k on the clock. Mint condition. A well minded car and good service history. High spec and all the extras. There were a few modifications made to this car. A new custom grill, and new 18" Alloys and new modified exhaust.

    2. 2000 Audi A4 TDI 1.9 (130BHP) 100k on the clock. Mint condition. Well minded car and excellent service history. High spec and all the extras. No modifications and English import.

Ive seen both and they are as above.

Just interested what you would pay for the above cars. I was quoted prices from the two owners as what they were worth, but I have a price in mind and I want to hear other opinions first.

    Thanks in advance.

4 for the golf and 2.5 for the Audi I'd say. Wouldn't be surprised if they went for more given irelands tdi horn.

The other owner is looking for €3000 for the Audi.

That's a fairly high price for a car that has over 100k miles on the clock.

Yes, it will explode at any minute.

That's seriously low mileage for an 11 year old A4 diesel. Double check the history to be sure. Golf price made me lol.

There are people who dream about buying diesel Volkswagens, just buy something else. The 1.9 TDI is a fine engine alright and can be made to go fast. A lot of owners have spent a fortune on mods. A 00 avensis could set you back 2000-2200, they're not desirable and pretty poorly equipped, a lot of people can justify another 1000 for a German car with extras.
That's what it is. Your friend wants one, so do lots of other people, it makes them expensive.
    Buy into it or don't.

Your man is mad for asking over 6000 for the golf.. 4500 is better price..might pick up one for better money but nothing under 3000 from what iv bein seeing as my brother on the look for one aswell..

the audi seems reasonably priced..probaly depends on model..not sure what year the new model came in..was around 2000 though.. English import is usually the reason for low mileage as to say they alot cleaner car...if its the new model then id say he is bang on with his money but as someone said already check service history to be safe but id say its sound..

    I'd have gone for €5K and €3K :)
And I'm not surprised the Golf owner is asking more, 150bhp ones that are fresh are very rare and someone may well part with €6000 for a good one.

I saw the service history of the A4 and its matches. Only 2 owners of this car. The guy that owned it bought it with 70,000miles in 2009 brought in from the UK.

Very few of this A4 model were made, I was told ( its a pre 2001 shaped A4). But I think he's bang on with his price.

The one thing about the Golf is that whoever installed the grill made a pretty bad job of it and its the one thing I dont like about it.

On second thoughts we are thinking of buying the Audi, we think its the nicer looking car.

Would you actually notice that extra 20 HP of power in the Golf as a matter of interest? Is it true that the this Golf car is heavier than that model of Audi A4?

If you are that worried about power just remap the Audi. I think the 130hp model can be remapped to 170hp without doing any other modifications to it.

6k+ for a 9 year old diesel Golf?

    Christ.

Those 150bhp Golfs really need the correct oil too, so if the service history isn't full and reputable garages I wouldn't touch it. I wouldn't touch it anyway as there in no value whatsoever there, it's 1/2 fav making it's handicap debut in a 14 runner race in Dundalk on a Friday evening :pac:

Are they asking €3000 or is that actually the price you have haggled them to? It's not too out of the way at €3000 really if it's minty and decent, I'd sooner pay a few hundred "extra" for a good A4 than the nutty Golf 150bhp premium.

He's asking 3000 for it. Thought it was reasonable. Bodywork absolutely perfect on it to be honest. It's like a new car it was so well kept. Not a scratch on it. Engine sounds good too, no rately noise out of it like you would find from a car of that age. Serviced also at every 5k miles. Still a lot of life left in it. Timing belt and water pump done also secondly.

Price is the meeting point of supply and demand. As Colm said, thousands of people in this country get wood with just the thought of owning that tractor diesel in an almighty Audi or Volkswagen!

OP - for half that money you can get a superior car. Don't follow the sheep on this one!

Why was it serviced at every 5k miles? The service intervals are somewhere around 15k miles. Sounds like someones embellishing the service history here....

I imported a Rover before that was serviced every 800-1000 miles.

It just happened that was all that was covered every 12 months when every car is due a service. I'd check the dates rather than mileage on the service history

I'd really get it checked out if you are serious about buying it, that engine sounds good with no rattles is par for the course so if you see that as a major plus you should really consider having the car checked out by someone who really knows their beans.

My ZT was €2250 and I would reckon it superior to the Golf except the Golf betters 20 odd mpg easily. It's definitely more comfortable and an in my view far far more attractive.

Got the car checked by my mechanic who works for an vw and Audi garage. His opinion was that it was one of the best kept cars of that age he had ever seen. He said the engine was like new.

Dont know what you are on about? All vw diesels need to be done at every 5-7k miles in order for them to run smooth.
