i mean seriously is this what soccer is all about and what the parents of that girl are teaching her.its sickening and animalistic behaviour.the girl didnt punch the keeper by the way.

A FORMER Coventry City goalkeeper was punched in the face by a spectator during a highly-charged Football League match.

Cameron Belford, who is from Nuneaton and was once on the Sky Blues’ books, was hit during a pitch invasion.

The shocking incident happened as the 22-year-old ‘keeper was playing for Bury in a promotion decider at Chesterfield on Monday.

He was struck when home fans – including young children – invaded the pitch and taunted him after he conceded an equalising goal.

Cameron’s dad Dale, who played for and later managed Atherstone Town, said: “It was crazy – and a shame because it was a great day.

“But I am really proud of the way Cameron handled the situation. He dealt with it in a professional manner, kept his cool and got on with the match, which ended in a 3-2 win for Bury.

“There were almost 10,000 fans in the ground and a fantastic atmosphere. Cameron went on to make an important save towards the end to make sure of the result and set up a night of celebrations.”

A 38-year-old man was arrested by police in connection with the assault – which left Belford with severe bruising on a cheek fractured during a game last October.

“It was a bad injury and he needed to have metal plates inserted,” said Dale. “This punch landed in exactly the same spot and there is a bit of concern that it may have caused further damage. The doctors will not be able to fully assess the injury until the bruising has gone down.

Just scum, plenty of them about. I've noticed the current generation of 11 - 16 year olds are without a doubt the most idiotic. They've been rared on the likes of "The Hills" and live in dreamland, feeling they can do what they want.

This obviously doesn't go for all of them; some well mannered and "normal" kids remain; but from working in a shop in the northside suburbs that particular age group tend to be composed of little scrotes.

    That was in October

So essentially, a big event was held, full of emotion and one punch was reportedly thrown?

Surely that reflects well on football fans, I mean in any other similar event, be it a concert, rally or rugby match, there'd be a few digs thrown at some stage

Have to laugh at people jumping on the high horse and looking down there nose's at football fans every time something like this appears in the media

just out of contrast - a teenager taped me on the shoulder yesterday at a checkout to tell me i dropped a tenner..he could have easily said nothing and took it for himself

anyway i remember they were saying the same negative thing about youngsters 20 yrs back, it never changes

Don't get me wrong there are some very pleasant and mature teenagers, when I used to work in the shop there were some more pleasant than most adult customers.

There's just a handful that put on the fake tan, wear crazy sunglasses at night and have Beibhairstyles that think they are the business and can do what they want.

I suppose it probably is a generational thing. Be good to see what the future has in store :p

If that was my daughter I'd be mortified! She'd not see outside the front door for months! Problem being, her parents could well be like the 38 year old in the article, and if they are ,they are probably very proud of her!

Unfortunately it's nothing new, when I was in a local dutch supermarket a few years ago, I heard a small child calling his grandmother a "kut wijf" which is basically a c**t b1tch. I nearly choked!

Wow, that's a huge contrast indeed. One of those stories that restores your faith!
