    Have a bearing gone rough in my bottom bracket, decided id drop it in to a shop n get it done, What would this typically cost? Am gonna ask for a new chain and a bit of fine tuning on the old rear mech, So All in , what would be roughly the normal price for all this? Call it a half service as ive looked after the rest of the bike pretty well. The bike is a Lapierre technic 700 mtb and havnt dropped it in yet but am just wondering in case i get a big fright when i do. Thanks in advance.

    Do you actually need a new chain? Replacing the chain gets expensive because you usually have to replace the cassette as well unless you've been keeping a close eye on it.

    Your bottom bracket is a Shimano hollowtech. Bad news is that it can't be serviced. Good news is that the cost of replacing it is cheaper than the labour to clean out and regrease a bottom bracket. You're looking at €25-€30 for the BB and 10 minutes to replace it.

    Assuming you don't need a new chain, you're looking at another 10 minutes to tweak the rear mech and get things moving proper again. So you'll probably be charged half and hour's labour overall. Dunno what the going rate is.

    New cassette? Really , damn. Well the chain is a bit stiff after the same spin that shagged my BB. Wet and sandy spin a week or two ago. Gave the cassette a good clean last nite n it looks/feels fine. Ill let the guys in the shop decide. Thanks

    It's easy enough to work out if you need a chain and cassette, or just chain;

    If the chain is a bit "stiff" then a good clean out and lube should sort it, though sand and bikes don't really go together.... :/
