    Hi all,

I'm brand new to the Dublin area and looking to take up cycling as a hobby and to get me to work, and was wondering whether anyone could give me opinions and/or reccomendations of the bikes shops in and around swords/malahide/santry etc.

Mainly 'im looking for a shop that will guide me toward getting the right starter bike and equipment i need for maintenance and riding.

    Can anyone help?

    Fireborn

Richies's in the Village is well regarded, and I have always found them to be very helpful, I bought my hybrid off them and they serviced it for free thereafter.

I had to buy my Road bike from Eurocycles in Airside due to my work only dealing with them for the Bike2Work scheme, I have also found them to be very helpful, I got some 2nd hand shifters and they removed the ones that came with my bike and fitted the new ones for free.

In my experience you won't go far wrong with either of those tbh.

Richies in swords is prob your best bet. There is also eurocycles at airside and halfords too. But personally i would go in and talk to Richie or Frank about a bike. Do some research on here too using the search facility - loads of previous threads for all budgets

Richies in swords are prob the best I've dealt with. Don't go near duff cycles in the omni in santry. They are highway robbery. Eurocycles in Airside are sound enough too. Got a good deal on shoes and pedals there recently.

+1 for Richies. Very easy to deal with in my experience. It's probably the closest shop to you too.

Richies are great to deal with, they once fixed my bike while I was passing and would not accept anything for it

    +1 for Richies too

If your driving when u go past the shop park your car in the area behind the hut, yer man in the hut will give u a little ticket, AFAIK richie will then stamp the ticket and you'll get free parking.

I respectfully disagree about Duffs. Small shop with limited stock and typical local bike shop prices but I've always been well looked after anytime I've been in and that counts for a lot.

    Richies are good too.

maybe i just got them on a bad day but 65 yo yo's to have 2 tubes (basic 700x23) fitted seems a bit expensive to me

Next your gonna say they asked u to bend over while they fitted the tubes :eek::eek::eek::eek:

I would've done it for 20 quid and i'd supply the tubes and most importantly i would not have asked u to bend over for any reason what so ever !

I ve been in Duff's a few times too - very over priced imo. Never bought due to the prices. I get the whole LBS thing but it doesnt mean they can commit daylighgt robbery

No, Mr Skeffington emigrated about 6 months ago (although he still posts on boards occasionally)

There are some bike mechanics around though - there is a special thread in the cycling adverts sub-forum
