Things you've destroyed

When I was young lad I set my microwave on fire. Thought at the time that putting chocolate powder in for a minute would melt it, I was wrong.

I know a Boards member who decided to pour a couple of litres of oil into a car engine, ended up destroying it.

What is the most expensive item you've ruined?

My mothers newly laid carpet. It was only down two days and I burnt sheet of paper a put a huge burn mark in it, right in front of the fire. I kept covering it with a rug, it took her about 3 weeks to find and when she did she went jaysus mental!!!!!

One day as a kid my Atari 2600 stopped working, wouldn't turn on. I guessed at the time that it might have been a problem with the power adaptor, so I went to the kitchen, got a scissors and cut off the power block that normally would have been inserted into the electrical socket. Luckily it was a socket with a power switch. I flipped the switch, exposed the wires on what remained of the power cable, inserted the scissors into the earth part of the socket and stuck the wires in. Flipped the switch and I can't remember if the party happened then or after I tried to turn on the Atari 2600. Nice big flash, a bang and some smoke. And that was the end of my 2600 :(

Used to know a man who:

    tipped over a forklift

wrote off a van by driving it into a ditch

almost wrote off another van by running a red light resulting in a car crashing into the side of it

crashed a van into a wall

drove off in a truck while it was still being refuelled resulting in the diesel pump being ripped out of the ground.

ripped down a set of curtains

    Will I name him? I WON'T!!

I switched the voltage on the back of a computer once, it wouldn't turn on so I thought that might help. It made a big bang, a lot fo smoke came out and it never worked again. Now I know about electricity though, so it was a learning experience.

When I was about 5 I had a remote controlled car with a wire to the remote. I cut the wire so I could make it go further. Then cried until my Mum managed to make it work again, no idea how.

I dropped a weight on my laptop and smashed the screen, credit card insurance paid to fix it though.

I also spilled milk on the keyboard of said laptop and had to just buy a new one at that point.

At about age 8 I managed to pull a sink off a wall, it landed on me pretty hard.

I'm sure there are more, I'm pretty accident prone.

Remember the cartridges for the commodore 64 had a sticker on them saying do not remove from the computer when it's turned on? They didn't put them on for the sake of it. I was heart broken. I'd just bought airbourne ranger too.

    I destroyed something beautiful

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 199 ✭✭CD.

my sister totalled a car by flipping it. (wasn't her fault at all though)

worst things i destroy are laptops (fan burnt out because i left it on couch/bed/fabric in general) broke the screen of another, it wont stand upright, one side completely detached.
dropped an external harddrive literally ten minutes after it was out of the box

i used to shove sandwich crusts into the VCR when i was a kid, but i dont know if that broke it.

one phone the colour green would appear on the screen and discolour it, but you could get rid of it by shaking the phone/banging it against something. hit it against the radiator and cracked the screen.
destroyed two phones at once going into the sea while drunk.

    my count :
    two laptops
    3 phones
    an external harddrive.

also the dog has chewed through charger wires, rendering them useless. kinda my fault as i should have been more careful as he is a known wire chewer.

    technology doesn't like me.

that or i subconsciously don't like technology.

Went through two PS3 Dualshock controllers in a month, once while drunk the other in a rage. 45quid to replace.

Myself and my housmates had a house party and turned what was a three floor dwelling into a two floor dwelling in one party by pulling the ceiling down on the third floor into the attic. Thankfully the house was condemned the week previously and the landlord did not give a sh*t!!

    good time
