Hey all, I've been humming and hawing as to whether or not taking up shooting and I've decided to go for it. I will be shooting my own targets on my uncles property, and hunting small game with a friend on a friend of his' land.

I'll be putting a deposit on a rifle tomorrow or thursday and said I'd ask a few Q's first.

I'm looking for a used, entry level rifle that is robust, low maintenance, .22 cal, bolt action, and relatively accurate. I have also been told to sway for German and British guns so preferrably only manufacturers from those nationailities. I have Krico rifles in my sights as they're cheap, and have pretty good user reviews...

    What would you guys reccomend?

My other question is can ye list a few of the best Irish web stores for guns and supplies?

    Cheers!

shooting targets outside of an authorised range is not legal if you are not zeroing the rifle as far as i know so i'd leave that bit out when talking to the guard about the licence

Just for thinking about when applyin, you cant shoot targets on someones unless it is a proper range. You can zero it though. No of one lad here who was refused for that reason.
    Edit: snap

    Best advice is..........
Phone around the dealers and get yourself a CZ bolt-action 22lr and you won't regret it. In fact have a look through the sales section here on boards for second hand CZ 22lr's

Actually what I meant by my own targets was pest control for my uncle, as opposed to game hunting... I probably should have specified that!

I do also intend on taking up range shooting with a club...

As for the rifle's, thanks I'll keep an eye out for one!

    Thanks alot, much appreciated!

stay away from the steel ones and get a plastic one,
and a yodave trigger kit (look up on ebay):)

It's a bit up on my intended price range... I gotta buy a rifle, ammo, case, clothing, safe, license, and cleaning equipment... I have two other vey demanding and money consuming hobbies so I'm trying to get into it on the cheap side for now!

that includes a scope which makes it a very good offer, and a cleaning kit.
you wont find much cheaper than that with a decent scope on it. s

Cz 452 is your best option as most here has all ready said . To get a more accurate .22lr you will have to spend a lot of money and they last for ever .

"its a .22 bruno with a lux stock and is threaded for a mod. it'll come with a swivel harris bipod, sling, 2small and 1large mag (i think) and a bushnel banner 6-18x50 scope. i think theres a cleaning kit there aswell.
    "

I think your not get a better buy at the money asked there from Doyle on that 22lr. The scope new is close on €200 and it comes with a Harris Bi-pod @€;130 and 3 magazines @€;30 a pop.

Your looking for something you will never be able to afford if your taking the cheap route now. Cut back on your other hobbies for a while and your get a bargan in that rifle.
