In the market for a large family car on a limited budget. Want diesel with low miles.

My dad just test drove a great value Skoda Superb. He's convinced it's a great bargain, perfect nick inside, FSH etc.

The salesman is giving him a big spiel about a guy coming to look at it again at five and he'd expect him to take it. Probably bollox but my dad is suggesting I put a deposit down.

Now, that's a bad idea to start. But if it doesn't go at five I'm considering driving the four hour journey tomorrow to see it. But before I do, how lethargic is the 105bhp Superb (2006, 1.9 tdi)?

(I'm coming from a 1.4 Astra, not exactly high performance).

    Thanks,

Won't be that bad, there was a 90bhp Passat and Mondeo that were adequate enough. Coming from a 1.4 Astra you should find it fine, decent lash of torque too with it being diesel. I wouldn't put a deposit on it without driving it though.

The dealer was actually telling the truth (shock!).

Guy did come down and did buy it. Missed a bargain there. Next Superb with similar mileage/spec is a grand and a half more expensive.

the 1.6tdi (105ps) is the replacement for the 1.9 block in the newer superbs and it is adaquate enough, won't blow your socks off but shouldn't be a problem.

prices on carzone are not a reflection of the actual price !!!!! offer 20-30% less than what is advertised .. guage the reaction and then start negotiating.

    Amazing how times change!!!!!!

Was looking at a superb like that in 2009 same year as above I had 15,000 and he would not budge off of 15250!!!!

Walked away with an 05 octavia later that day for 10grand from different dealer.

Still love the superb though and always curse that dealer for not dropping the 250:mad:
