Forum suggestion for cycle routes

    Hi,

Can i suggest a subforum forum cycle routes?

I think it would be great if we could have a subforum specifically for cycle routes whereby memebers can post routes they like and post details like terrain, traffic, state of roads, steepness of inclines etc.

If it was possible to split by county that would make it very easy to navigate.

I just find I am always looking for new routes especially if I head off for the weekend with the bike but dont have a clue where to go. But it is very hard to find postings on various routes by counties or in an orderly fashion.

    What do you think?

http://www.mapmyride.com -plenty of routes, infinitely searchable, any subforum here you most likely just be a pile of links to there anyway! :)

    Subforums bad.
    Wiki good.

Might be nice to have a routes thread for mountain biking routes around the country but it all depends how many mountain bikers frequent this forum.

I think it would become an over complicated mess.

There are so many route variations from anywhere to anywhere via anywhere that if people started posting them all everything would just get lost it the crowd.

Checking the cycle logs of people is one way of finding good routes and show you how many variations there are. For example I nearly always start from Cabinteely but have and dozens dozens of slightly different routes clocked up. How would you filter them to find the ones that would be considered "good" by a majority?

Tiny, Lumen & cookie - I see what you mean - point taken.

Thanks for the wiki link Lumen.

I have to say I find the map my ride.com website very hard to use and follow. Maybe you have to be a paying member to unleash its potential.

yeah I hate that too. google maps is handy enough for basic distance and directions and is quick and easy.

there are laods of other route loggin sites that offer more flexibility than google maps, like map my ride, ride with gps, bike toaster, garmin connect etc. all have their plus and minus points and most have a thoroughly useless search function.
