It started when my daughter's circle of running friends travelled to Tipperary on Saturday to bury a young athlete comrade. Then on Monday they went to Galway, where he had died, and ran a marathon to celebrate his life.

They ran in Tipp. jerseys borrowed from a GAA club and after the race a jersey signed by all of the team was presented to the young man's family.

Then we learned that my son's girl fiend is to have a long awaited baby.

So: After tragedy, a new life.
