Cold water pipe making loud noise

    Hello all,

I recently connected a new washing machine to existing position in utility room, water feed at this point is 1/2" copper pipe from attic cold water tank (2 story house).
Since we started using this machine each time it starts taking in water there is a loud brrrring noise being transmitted through out the house pipe work.
We had 2 washing machines before this connected in same position with no noise problems.
I seen item called "water shock arrestor pot" but not sure if it would be any use on a gravity feed system.
I would be grateful for any advise on what may be causing this problem and resolving same.

is the machine pushed right up against the copper pipe and literally vibrating it when running , i havent heard of this problem with a cold feed from tank.

perhaps the inlet solenoid valve is faulty: IMO the issue is with the machine

    Hi guys

Thank you for your advise I pulled machine out from under unit and ran it noise still there in pipe work.
On your advise I am thinking of connecting machine to hot water pipe which is available at rear of machine and see if noise is still there this may prove if its pipe work or washing machine.

Dont connect the machine to the hot water pipe its not designed for that. You will cause it damage.

have you opened the valve all the way on the machine. Its most likely something simple

I connected machine to hot pipe and ran a short wash (15 min) there was no noise in pipe work, so that more or less ruled out washing machine.

After reading latest advise I decided to replace existing tap/valve on cold pipe with a new one, this had a marked effect on noise level in fact I think it more or less solved the problem fingers crossed.

On looking inside old tap/valve there were slivers of black plastic from seal visible also it was quite tight to open and close.

I would like to thank you all for your good advise and pointing me in the right direction to locating problem.
