bit of a delicate one here , most of us are aware of the fact that thier are numerous chanells ( further down the dial ) available on satelite which are what you might call , unfit for childrens viewing , i realise that its possible to set up a PIN number system so as to restrict access but is it possible to buy a dish on which theese kind of channels are completley unavailable

    thanks

No, your post reminded of an episode of 'Keeping up Appearences' years ago when Ms Bucket called out a TV guy to the house to install a device that Bleeped every time bad language was used on TV! Sorry!

You can go into the receiver settings, into channel editor and simply delete these channels all together, that way the kids won't even see them on the EPG and spend hours trying to crack the PIN.

My receiver also has a Parental mode, it blocks all that sorta crap, might be worth looking for.

Do you have sky? If so simply go into parental controls settings on the box and block them-all you get is a blue screen and you need your pin number to access them.
If you have a fta box you can simply delete what you don't want on it.

Doesn't matter what dish you have, that's simply there as an antenna to pick up the signals and the box decodes them.

All the FTA boxes will receive the signal, but you can simple delete them after you do the first time scan....All the Freesat boxs for example

I have both of these boxes at home, the Humax and the Sagam.

I'd highly recommend the Humax if you like your Sky+, you get all your Series link, Live Pause & Rewind etc.

....and of you can delete all the Adult crap as well as the crappy Shopping and Islam channels! I'm sure you won't want the kids converting either!

If you have these channels blocked on a Skybox it remembers to block them even after you cancel Sky and remove the viewing card to use the box for fta.

An aunt of mine cancelled Sky because of "too many dirty channels"-imagine her surprise when she discovered they were still available fta-she wouldn't do as I suggested and put pin protection on them first.

Are you assuming the original poster is anti-Islam? No need for a post like that on a satellite forum.

Assumed posters contribution was tongue in cheek.

Seems fairly obvious the poster was simply giving examples of the dross which tends to populate the channels on the outer reaches of Freesat/FTA.

My apologies, my intention was inform the OP that it wasn't only the Adult Smut that could be deleted from the box, other 'Genres' that the vast amount of people would have no intrest in watching could be deleted also and I included a Light Hearted, Tongue in Cheek comment at the end.

I thought it was funny, maybe not!

I think it's sad that objectionable channels are being pumped into people's homes in the way that they are. If it has to be so, then it should be the case that you have to opt IN to this sort of stuff, and not have to take the trouble of finding a TV or DTT box or satellite box that allows you to delete the nasties from the channel list - much better than just being able to lock them with a pin code. Some TVs and boxes allow a delete but many do not. Also, if you are seaching for the word "Delete" in an online manual you need to be sure that the delete refers not just to a "favourites" list but to the actual channel list.
