bought some 10-10-20 last week from liffey mills for €440/T if I remember correctly. Got some 16-5-20 and it was around the same. No idea what CAN is at the moment and no idea if its going up or down, try the back of the farmers journal to see what way it is going. I have my doubts that it will go down considering oil is still high

White clover is the answer at most you only need to spread 50 units of chemical nitrogen when you have clover in the sward.

Just about to take a first cut, it is well fertilizered with slurry and fertilizer for the last couple years, this year it got slurry in March and CAN in May, however I was wondering for doing a second cut would it be ok to spread just CAN or would I need to spread Ps & Ks as well?

Brought up this old one, I spread a bag of urea every spring, but I don't think it works some years, a couple of bags of 18.6.12 the start of March might be money better spent, any thoughts? What price is urea this year

This one would really make me think twice about early applications. The response looks dismal until weather heats up.

Stan Lawler was asked yesterday about early N and to him it is essential for spring growth if ground temps are 5 degrees. But stick to half a bag. Day length is alot shorter now vs say mid March when the return for chemical N us slot higher
Ground atm is 7-8 degrees and grass growing. I think it's a no brainer to go with urea now.
According to Stan if you get a response of over 5kg if growth it's worth while.
If this hard weather is to come that's being talked about I think it's even more essential to give the plant some energy.

Practicality has to come into it too ,no point going with fertliser unless ur going to use its rewards (get out and graze).with ground temps at 7/8 degrees there’s is growth ,I’ll make call this weekend after looking at weather if there is no significant drop in temps in week ahead I’m going with 40 units ,if colder weather forecast it’ll stay in bag for now and just slurry going out ,urea is 380/400 a tonne so no point just throwing it out for sake of it .

27th of Dec was the time to go out with the 30 units or so ideally...

Wonder why Teagasc announced a 15%+ price rise?
It isn’t reflected in prices here also...

Prices have eased by a little since mid December.

They’re out by around 30%...that’s a fairly crude error margin.

One wonders did they just ask Yara for a ballpark.
