Looking for a new laptop for general and college work, budget up to E550, would like a 2nd gen i-3 or a 1st gen i-5 or perhaps an equivalent power AMD, would prefer 3-4GB of RAM if possible.

Have been looking by myself but I'm slightly overwhelmed by the sheer number of options.

All help would be greatly appreciated.

Why not get the full 4gb/500gb and a 2nd Gen i5. This is coming in at €552 delivered, and is terrific vzlue for that money. No graphics card though

For €613 delivered, this adds 1gb dedicated graphics and makes it 6gb/640gb. Again, terrific value for what is an extremely capable laptop

    That's a 2nd gen mate, all 2nd i processors start with 2 i.e i-5 2410

Its certainly 2nd gen, and its clearly an extremely quick mobile chip. To be getting this kinda of performance about a year ago, you'd have been looking at an i7. It would have been unthinkable getting a laptop with a processor with a chip that quick for ~€550, even 6 months ago

Just looking to piggyback on this question - I'm looking to buy a laptop off saveonlaptops but have never done so before,

    Any feedback would be appreciated

Well do a search around here and bargain alerts and you'll see plenty of boardsies who have ordered off them. I got a laptop off them in February and the delivery was top notch, got to Cork in 2 days. Some boardsies have come across issues when using their credit cards but i think it only required them to ring them to show you actually exist! Like i said, do a search on it

Well I've seen a good few boardsies putting up links to the site but never really heard any feedback on what they're like to deal with.

Would be ordering to Cork aswell so that kind of delivery is top notch, cheers :)
