    I have an 03 toyota yaris (fully serviced at christmas) developed a problem today, driving along fine, then all of a sudden it really starts to struggle, pull up to the lights and when i stop at the lights, power cuts out completely,turn on engine and it can just about get it going again but it struggles to get up to speed initially but when in 4th gear it seems ok but lower gears it really struggles. Also a warning light on dash, (cant find manual) and smell of oil from engine!!! help!!!:( oh also heard a couple of suspicious bangs too !! eek!!

    I think you might be running on 3 cylinders, plug or coil or lead after failing maybe.

    I would say check the MAF sensor, it may be causing your problem. It may also be a coil. Just get it checked with your local mechanic.

    another vote here for a coil problem.

    the beauty is that your check engine light is on so any decent mechain should have this diagnosed very quickly.

    dont usually give trouble on yaris but has all the hallmarks of a coil problem. wont cost a lot.!!:)
