This is happening way too much, our national broadcaster is again making basic spelling mistakes on it's pages take this for example: "JEWARD EXCITED ABOUT FEIS AND BLOOD FINAL" printed on the main page at 9am this morning (since rectified after complaint) and then on the weather page: "SHOWERS IN MORE ESATERN AREAS LATER". (still printed at time of this post) I mean come on!

I wouldn't have high expectations of RTE, but I do boggle a little at Irish Times errors.

The RTÉ headquarters are about 1/4 mile from University College Dublin. Need I - a UCD student myself - say more? :p

This is hilarious! Only last week Pat Kenny was telling teachers how easy it is to teach grammar to children. Maybe he should set up a spelling class for his colleagues?

Caught a glimpse of it the other day. I think it's a search for Ireland's most talented family or something. Yes, shudder. I had an image of gladiatoral battles at a céilí - most disappointing

It's a TG4 programme, trad musicians and 'Irish' and sean nos dancers, that sort of thing.

I'm not sure what a flesh and blood final is, tbh. It's odd syntax.

    It could be something else.

If you ask me, "Jedward" contains at least two mistakes ... I keep forgetting their names, though.

A true pedant would know that Grammar != Spelling

You've obviously had a busy eight months constantly pressing F5 on the RTE home page every 10 minutes.

The RTE spellchecker was another victim of the recession and was recently made redundant as part of their cutbacks. When asked for a comment all he could say was "Words fail me"

what annoys me more is people who make a big deal over spelling or grammar mistakes. as if good spelling will save the world !

There's a difference between typos and just good ol' fashioned mistakes that are caused by people being sh*t at spelling.

To be honest I missed the mis-spelt twits name too.

And while I value the importance of spelling and grammar, I'd be more depressed by the fact that RTÉ view anything those two bodies/one brain do as newsworthy.
