Getting Valium for Anxiety

A while ago I felt like I'd developed some sort of anxiety disorder. It wasn't completely taking over my life, I was still able to do most things, but I noticed myself occasionally getting very edgy and restless in certain public situations. I developed this thing where I felt like I couldn't drink liquids in public. It was stupid the way it started. One day I went to drink something and wasn't ready to swallow it for whatever reason and it was like my brain ceased up and I felt like I couldn't do it. I noticed it happening the odd time a few years ago, once in a blue moon, and always at work at lunch. I know it's all in my head as when I'm not thinking about it, it doesn't bother me.

Anyway I've noticed this anxiety thing creeping into other areas. I was never a fan of flying but now I feel like I'm letting it take a hold of me. I feel like if one of these anxiety type situations comes up again when I'm on a long flight that I will crack up. I mean when I'm at work or something, I can always excuse myself and pretend I have to go to the toilet or something. But when I'm on a plane, I'm stuck there until it lands and can't get out. These situations at work have been happening less frequently I've found recently which is good, but the plane thing is still bothering me.

I'd like to head to the US for a holiday next year and I feel like this is holding me back. Someone I know said I should just go to the doctor and ask him for some valium to take on the flight if I need it. But I'm sure it's just not that simple though is it? I can't really just go in to the doctor and say "I get really anxious and restless and I don't know if I could cope with a long flight, so can you give me a few valium to take on the flight there and the flight home".

What are other people's experiences of this? As I say, I can't imagine it's as simple as walking in for a quick chat and walking out 15 minutes later with a valium prescription. I would be legitimately only want it for the flight and I would only take it if I needed it.

Anyone else been in a similar situation?

I'm afraid the posters here are unable to advise you one how best to get a valium prescription...and we cannot even make a guess as to whether that's the correct medication you should be taking.

You are best describing ALL symptoms of your anxiety to your GP and getting a professional opinion on how best to tackle all issues you are experiencing and ask specifically about flying while you are there.

    All the best.
