Provisions on U18s attending a club with alcohol sales

    Right,

So i'm planning to run a post-leaving cert party in a club in the town where i'm from.

In the leaving cert classes around here, most students are either 17 or 18.

A lot of them will be 17. So not having them would be a killer. If there was no alcohol sales, the 18 year olds wouldnt come - that too would be a killer.

I have an idea for everyone who is over 18 to get a red wristband, everyone under 18 gets a blue one or something of that nature to differentiate between the two.

Only red wristbands get served alcohol + Only one drink per person per order.

I read that U18s can stay after 9pm if a meal is served, but that would be hard to muster up in a club so that's not really a viable option!

I realize it's likely enough that it could be set in stone that U17s can't come in but any advice on the topic would be very helpful.

Seen this done before and it doesnt work...anyways, the 18 year olds have years of experience of sneaking in drink...

    Ok I should probably rephrase.

2 years ago the same club did a non-alcoholic night after the leaving and it was a complete failure, so that's off the agenda. What i'm asking is: is there a way of having a night in a nightclub for let's say over 17s, with alcohol being served, where (obviously) only people over 18 get served drink.

My job will to pack the place out, so i make my money by a % of the door and ticket sales to the event while the club make theirs through their drink sales and cloak room. Having U18s at the club will obviously make it much easier to pack out, but is it possible?

If you could find a venue with a bar seperate to the general area you could do something. At Wes a few years ago the bar had bouners outside it so only over eighteens could go up (i'm not sure if they still do this or if it's in breach of lisencing laws)

Isn't there a law about children on a licenced premises after 7pm?

I doubt if you'd find a venue that would be up for it. Too much policing involved.

Some of the music venues do it from time to time but they tend to stick the drinkers on a balcony and there's no circulation between the two areas.

It can be done where there's food being served (AFAIK)

I can't remember the exact details but I think it's generally only applicable to hotels
