    Hi All
Im sure this thread has been discussed before, so apologies for brining it back up, but I am hoping to run a marathon in the Autumn, not too sure where at this moment in time. Its my first marathon and aiming to get under 2:40 all going well, would anyone be able to recommend a suitable book that I could use for developing a training schedule to achieve this goal.
    Thanks

there seams to be two main options:
Andanved Running Formula, by Pfitzinger & Douglas
Daniels Running Formuls, by Jack Daniels

id recommend Daniels, and i know of a few others on here who have used it to great sucess and some of which went low 2:4X....
personally i only know of one person on here who went 2:48 with P&D, but there have been a few users who went sub3 with it i think.

im sure others will pitch in but the latest seams to be Daniels anyway, the Elite plan might suit you aiming for sub2:40.

    best of luck with it

I think when you get down to these kinda times that you need to move away from generic plans and look to more specific training perhaps with club running or an experienced coach. Here you will benefit from being able to adjust plans to suit what works for you more. Would also advise that you have a substantial aerobic base built up over a period of years as its not something a once of 18 week plan can really help you achieve without putting in the hard slog for a consitent duration.

If I recall you recently enough broke 60 for 10 mile so 2.40 is a big step up as its 61 pace back to back and some to spare so it will take either an improvement of your speed over the shorter distances first or a hell of aerobic base to compensate for the low drop off of pace

What ever route you take best of luck with it

Thanks Guys for that. I might try a combination of both. I think I will purchase the Daniels book and see how that goes, dont know any coaches locally but I am hoping I can talk to some people before I start into a schedule, doing both should give me a clear picture of what I need to do. Have gotten my 10miles times down to the 56's since post last year so I am hoping I have the scope to go below 2:40. Until Mid June I am going to try and get my 5mile/10K times down to mid/high 26/33mins respectively.
