    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone here could recommend a Driving Instructor for an extremely nervous driver? I need someone with loads of patience and who won't laugh at me for being so terrified of learning to drive!

    Many thanks, poppies2

    Hey Poppies2,

I contacted Norman Graham from http://www.safewaydrivinglessons.ie/.
I have known him for many years as he lives near by.

After having him recommended to me a few times I finally decided to give him a go.
He is the only instructor I have ever had.
He was very patient with me and I was very nervous too.
    He is very reassuring.

Once I learned to drive about a year later I started to consider attempting the driving test, i did a few more lessons with him and had some bad habits that needed ironing out. I failed the first test by doing something norman had already pointed out was an issue for me, i did two more lessons with him, resat the exam and passed.

I couldnt have been more happy and really owe it to norman, he is a great instructor.

As we lived beside each other he did a really good price for me but I think a standard 1 hour lesson probably works out at around €30 a lesson. Best to give him a ring though on:

    Hope this helps you.

    Talk to Bobby Dunphy: Website

He's from Ross, but he does lessons in Waterford all the time, the most patient and best teacher I have ever come across.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm hoping they won't or order me out of their car for being overboard on the nevousness!

Meant to say in my op that I did a search for this topic but the threads seemed to be years old and was hoping for advice from someone (or someone who knew someone!) had lessons recently with an instructor who specialised in really terrified leaners!

Search the forum for more recommendations. Any decent instructor will be well able to help and won't take any notice if you are nervous, in the negative sense anyway, and should be more then helpful. :)

Thanks everyone, really appreciate the advice :). Really wish I wasn't so nervous about it. If anyone has any bad experiences to report please feel free to pm me the ones to stay away from ;)

In the last big thread here, Kieran Kennedy had the most recommendations. I remember that because I was recommended him based on my wife and friend's experiences with him. Patient is apparently the main word for him!

Slightly off thread i know, but gotta tell you about a friend of mine.

He's a pretty good driver really, but he's failed his test 12 times due to nerves. he's in his forties and been driving for 20 years or so.

Some of the things he's done whilst taking the test are unbelievable:D

He's gotten sick out the window!

    He reversed into a tree!

he went through 3 sets of red lights on 1 test!

He pulled up and got out of the car,(for a panic attack)!

He shouted at the tester to "Shut Fcuking up yer puttin me off!!:D

Every time he comes back we're in the stitches when he tells us why he failed this time:D:D

Couldnt recommend Vincent O'Dwyer more, My gf went to him years ago, great patience, and she was quiet nervous too.
