Is This Laptop Battery Safe To Use

I have a sony vaio vgn laptop output 60v 3.75a 60w and was given a dell ad-4214n Output 14V DC 3000 mAh (42W) The connection is the same as my sony Laptop and seems to charge the Laptop. If i was to use this all the time would it damage my Laptop.

Battery? You mean adapter/PSU?

The output voltage (V) of the PSU should be exactly the same, and the current rating (A) should be the same as the old one or bigger.
