Need an excuse to quit my job.

Hi, I have started a part time job which I really hate and am just doing coz I need the cash. Anyway my circumstances have changed since I have come in to some money and I want to quit asap. I have only been working there for about 3 weeks and am part time so not like I'm a long term member of staff. I'm dreading the phone call to my boss though as I don't think he'll be happy with me just telling him I am not going to work tomorrow. I am trying to think of a decent excuse that will sound reasonable. Obviously I could just tell him the truth that I don't need the money right now but I assume he'd still expect me to work out my notice. Really want to get home for Easter though so just wanna quit now. Sorry I know this isn't really a ''problem'' but I cringe at these awkward confrontations so just wondering if anybody had any advice.

    Thanks

You could just not show up, that usually gets people fired.

I wouldn't be inclined to do that sort of thing myself, but if that is what you are looking for.

Personally, I would work the notice, or at least until they can get somebody else, but it's up to you as what you want to do.

give your employer your notice they will ask why you can just tell em the truth or say something like "ive found something better / nearer to home / better hours" so on.
wont do you any harm to leave on good terms with them. getting fired kinda looks bad on a CV and unless your rolling in cash you might need a job sometime in the future.

I don't know how much money you came into, but short of winning the lottery you should try to leave on good terms.

You could tell your employer you found a new job & explain that you'd prefer not to have to work your notice and see what he says. He might insist on you working your notice, but there's nothing stopping you from not turning up.

Just tell the truth. It's not a big deal at all?

OP - you do not say why you hate the job or whether anyone will be very inconvenienced by you quiting or not showing up.

Nobody can force you to work and say you took a job as a home help to allow someone to work or take a break then I would say you have an ethical reason to be there.

If it is a job that anyone could do and there were others who can fill the role with the minimum of fuss say so.

So - you should tell your boss you plan to leave because of a change in circumstances but not that you hate the job. You might find that he can still get back to unsucessful applicants or put the job up in FAS & replace you.

The adult thing to do is be honourable & face up to the fact that you are inconveniencing someone - which is what you are doing by not doing the right thing.
