It could have been left unregistered/unsold for a few years? Not completely unusual for a sports car, even these days.

Very true, I was surprised they were even sold here but the father tells me they sold them in Claffeys (sp.) back in the day!

Edit: Sorry, he says the car is 1970 in the ad??

    Maybe a UK import so?

It's still a 1970 car on 76 plates, motorcheck.ie says it's a Triumph coupe alright. The father says he had a Skoda coupe back in 1976 and it was Xti as well! Strange one, I'd be curious to find out more.

If it was brought in from the UK it would hardly have been given a 76 plate would it?

If it was imported in 1976 it would have, that's how it used to work back then as the plates were not really age-related.

That answers that so! Would also explain the strange choice of colour, I can't imagine Paddy buying a purple GT6 :L So you could of bought a 6 year old car back then and everyone would be lead to believe you have a new one ;)

Don't know really, was just wondering if the reg could have come from one maybe, if their age profile fits in

Spitfires were produced until 1980. This is registered as just a "Triumph", no model specified, but it is recorded as having a 2 litre engine and being a 1970 car. The log book or one of the online checks (motorcheck.ie or, mywheels.ie or whatever) will tell you if it was a used import.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triumph_GT6.

The last one was built in December 1973, so maybe it was sold new between 75-76......:)

You can drop in a 2.5 crank from the 2500 saloon, modify the sump a little and it'll look pretty much standard ;). Not that the 2 litre is any slouch though....

Can't believe nobody else has answered this:

If the reg was 446 xti It could be from that period listed.

But earlier regs would be xti 446 which could easily be from around 1970.

It went ati 1 to yti 999, then changed to 1 ti up to 9999 ti

then the sequence continued to 1 ati to 999 yti ( in theory anyway as I don't know how far they got before starting the 87 L plates)

An uncle of mine had an Alfetta in the early 70s with reg 1111 TI. What a cracker.

The final reg no issued in Limerick city on the 31/12/86 was 929 FTI.
Its quite possible that the GT6 was imported and would have been issued with a current reg when first registered here in Ireland.
