Was after a fisheye lens for my 60D and didn't really do my homework like I normally would. I picked up what was apparently Gunns' last 15mm 2.8 and took it home, only to read up on it and see that the Fisheye effect is much less pronounced on a crop body.

This was incredibly stupid of me, I know. That said, after a couple of test shots, the lens does strike me as rather nice in terms of quality etc. I'm just wondering if I should maybe return it in favour of something more pronounced. Is anyone currently using this lens on a crop? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Feel like a bit of an eejit.

    I'm getting a 15mm fisheye myself. A lovely lens.

But, I'll be using it on a APS-H body.

I don't think there is a "more pronounced" lens though.

It's still a brilliant lens, nice and wide, and I'm sure you'll get good use of it.

Very usuable on a crop, I use it on the 5d and the 1dmk3.

Hey, thanks a mil for that. Isn't the 5D full frame? I know the 1DMk3 is a 1.3 crop so I'm guessing it'd be a bit more 'fishy' than a 1.6.

Anybody any experience with returning stuff to Gunns?

Canon's cropped sensors are actually 1.8, Nikkon use 1.6 :(

    Exactly.

Usually I dislike wikipedia, but it's correct there.

15mm on 5D, lens belongs to Borderfox and I even didn't drop that one.
You didn't go wrong with that lens, if you will be using it.

I have an el cheapo 16mm Zenitar fisheye that I use on my cropped 7D. There's plenty of distortion in the right situation.

Here's a few from Oxford and London:

It's still going to be nice & wide on a cropped body, but not the full Fisheye effect. If you make a move up to full frame it will be nice.

I have the 8mm Samyang which is cropped sensor Fisheye. Quite cheap, fully manual but will work as Aperture Priority & Matrix Meter on my D300. These were taken with it.j

I bought a 55-250 lens from them last year, used it for a week or so and just wasn't happy with it, absolutely no problems returning it (except I felt a bit of a heel doing it!) Nice people to deal with.

Don't sigma do a 10mm fisheye specifically for a cropped body? I think the one you have is a waste on a cropped body. I bought the sigma 15mm fisheye years ago when the 300D just came out and was so disapointed, I left it on the shelf until I got a 5D. I use it all the time now.

A huge thanks to all for such detailed responses. You've all managed to clarify things somewhat, and have proved once again how great the Boards photo forum is. Will pop back to Gunns with the lens this week. Ta all.
